17th Suspect
17th Suspect | James Patterson
A series of shootings exposes San Francisco to a methodical yet unpredictable killer, and a reluctant woman decides to put her trust in Sergeant Lindsay Boxer. The confidential informant's tip leads Lindsay to disturbing conclusions, including that something has gone horribly wrong inside the police department itself. The hunt for the killer lures Lindsay out of her jurisdiction, and gets inside Lindsay in dangerous ways. She suffers unsettling medical symptoms, and her friends and confidantes in the Women's Murder Club warn Lindsay against taking the crimes too much to heart. With lives at stake, the detective can't help but follow the case into ever more terrifying terrain. A decorated officer, loving wife, devoted mother, and loyal friend, Lindsay's unwavering integrity has never failed her. But now she is confronting a killer who is determined to undermine it all.

Another winner in this series. More focus on Yuki this time as she is assistant district attorney for an alleged rape of a man by a woman. Lindsey and Joe are back together. Lindsey is baffled by a series of murders of homeless women, and realizes she‘s pregnant and has a form of anemia …

I liked how this book explored Lindsay softer side by her following the crimes introduced to her by Millie Cushing. Alongside this was the story of Briana hill and mark, which was very twisted but well addressed.

Only Patterson books I‘ve kept reading, but the last one I read was poor so we‘ll see. I always liked the characters in these.

TrishB @Cathythoughts they are definitely not literary genius! 6y

Shaneyney I have several of them but I‘m never knew how many were in the set. What number does it go up to? Are they one sequential story? 6y
TrishB @Shaneyney the series is up to 17 so far. They do follow on in the terms of the characters lives/personal stories and some of the crime figures reappear. I would read in order, but I always say that! 6y
Liatrek I agree! I bailed on his Alex Cross series but this one it‘s not great but I‘m invested in the characters even though I‘m starting to feel he just doesn‘t do justice to them anymore. Claire is never in there books enough and now they hardly ever actually solve stuff together. 6y
TrishB @Liatrek that‘s exactly it! The 4 women are what made the series and if they‘re not in it up and front it‘s just an average thriller really. 6y

Another good outing in the Women‘s Murder Club Series. This one focused around a rape trail for Yuki and the murders of homeless people for Lindsay. These books continue to be very good reads, but I still feel they have lost some of the focus of the original ones where the club got together to solve murders. Two of the four in the club hardly figured in this one. At the end we had a potential life changing event for Lindsay.

TrishB This was the first one I was slightly disappointed in for the reasons you‘ve said! 6y
Andrew65 @TrishB Having had a bit more time to reflect on it I also felt there was a lack of tension and conflict in this one, all seemed quite gentle and felt the Court Case was a bit too transparent. Hopefully the next one will get back to better form. (edited) 6y
Liatrek I agree! I miss the actual murder club solving crimes. The last few books really seem to only focus on Lyndsey and Yuki. I miss Claire she never gets enough time in the books anymore 😞 6y
See All 8 Comments
Andrew65 @Liatrek I agree totally, Claire is such a great character but has gone AWOL! Unfortunately not as great a series as it once was. 6y
TrishB @Liatrek @Andrew65 I think to get to 17 before we‘re questioning is good. I may give it one more book! 6y
Liatrek @Andrew65 @TrishB Yeah at this point I‘m so invested in the characters that‘s why it‘s disappointing not all characters get story time then eating lunch 😊 I saw they have book 18 tittle and summary already. 6y
Andrew65 @Liatrek @TrishB I spotted that too. 6y

To all my American friends and Littens out there, is the second amendment the right to carry a gun, or is there more to it than that?

DGRachel “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” 6y
MelissaSue81 Essentially. “A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” 6y
MelissaSue81 Keep in mind, we don‘t actually have any well regulated militias.. 6y
See All 24 Comments
Andrew65 @DGRachel Thanks 👍, I wasn‘t aware of the first part of the statement. 😊 6y
Andrew65 @MelissaSue81 Thanks, 😊 Your second point is telling. 6y
DGRachel The intent was to prevent the federal government from disbanding State militias, but it has become a rallying cry for the NRA that every citizen has a constitutional right to own and carry military grade assault rifles. Because, God forbid, we institute reasonable restrictions. 🙄 I refuse to believe “AK-47s for everybody” was the Founding Fathers goal. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @DGRachel I think that‘s the nub of it from an outsider‘s perspective. Surely in this day and age there has to be reasonable restrictions, especially when you see the multiple shootings in schools etc. But obviously I only see what is presented in the media over here. 6y
DGRachel It‘s a really touchy subject. Americans as a general rule are VERY independent minded, and telling us we can‘t do/have something is the fastest way to piss us off. BUT, not all Americans think gun restrictions are a bad idea. I happen to think we need reasonable restrictions and the current laws need to be better enforced and loopholes need to be closed, but the NRA has a LOT of money and power. 😔 6y
Andrew65 @DGRachel That‘s certainly the way I‘ve read things from this side of the pond. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Another way to look at the gun problem is don‘t take the guns away but get help for the mentally ill. It‘s not guns killing people but mentally ill people are doing the killing. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB As an outsider, in a country where there is no gun culture, I would have thought this is an issue for better mental health care (this is not good enough in the UK either) and gun restrictions to ensure guns don‘t get into these people‘s hands. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 The baddies will always be able to get guns one way or another and it‘s best to have some people armed against them before they kill us all. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB In general I‘d agree but that doesn‘t seem to be stopping the mass shootings. The figure I saw was 154 mass shootings in the first 177 days in 2018. Surely something has to be done further to stop that whatever it is, but I‘m not American or even in the US so not for me to say what that should or could be. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 There are so many guns out there so I don‘t know how you can monitor them all. It‘s mostly mentally ill people who want to commit suicide and want to take people with them. I would start with doing something about the mentally ill and making sure they don‘t get access to guns. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB That would be a start, as you say difficult to close that Pandora‘s box once they are so prevalent in society. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 Exactly! Almost impossible! It forces normal people to want guns in order to protect themselves and their family. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB I can definitely see that. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 When they talk about voting on gun control the lines for people to sign up for permits to carry a gun grows and grows and most of them are women signing up for a gun. 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB Such a sad state of affairs that they obviously feel they need to. 6y
EadieB @Andrew65 the forefathers put it in the constitution the right to bear arms and a lot of people do not want that right taken away. Why should normal people have to give up their guns because of crazy people? 6y
Andrew65 @EadieB I would imagine for Americans that is the heart of the matter. 6y
Reggie @Andrew65 when the mentally ill guy shot those 15 kids back in 1996. What did your government do? Has there been mass school shootings since? Did your government place the lives of children higher than “a right.” Forgive my snarky sarcastic tone but I think it‘s funny that our government or mainly one person wants to put a justice in that will overturn RoeVWade. Like they care about the prepackaged kid only till it‘s old enough to get killed by 6y
Reggie a gun. (edited) 6y
Andrew65 @Reggie I think you‘ve hit the nail on the head. Lives of the children should be put above a right, as the saying goes if we always do what we‘ve always done we‘ll going to get what we‘ve always got. Was shocked how many mass shootings there had been this year alone. Surely people should see something needs to be done! 6y

I loved the camaraderie of the women‘s murder club and how it brings the legal process forward in their professions. However, throughout you were following multiple character stories and never really digging deep into one. What did you think? Just had to showcase Maxine Paetro, James Patterson‘s co author in the wonderful Women‘s Murder Club Series. She has co-written every one since book 4 and I don‘t think she gets the credit she deserves! I‘m sure I‘m not the only one that thinks she does the bulk of writing for these. Simply love this series and still trying to get hold of the latest!

ephemeralwaltz Why that's a shame how her name is in smaller lettering. There's the tragic truth of marketing right there. Thanks so much for pointing this out - I had no idea!! 7y
Andrew65 @ephemeralwaltz Yes in all his co-authored book the other name is almost invisible. Bet Bill Clinton‘s name won‘t be in small print. As well as a female author in there, good to see books where the four central characters are all women. Should make a tv series of it. (edited) 7y
Pamwurtzler @Andrew65 I love these too. There was a brief Tv series starring Angie Harmon. I don‘t know if you can find it anywhere. 7y

Traci1 I agree. I think she's brilliant. He's had tons of co-authors, but none as consistently good. 7y

If you are a fan of the Women‘s Murder Club then I think you will enjoy this installment. It is a quick read and a visit with old friends. The focus is more on Yuki and Lindsay-we see very little of Claire and Cindy in this one. Yuki is trying a rape case in which a woman is accused of raping a man and Boxer is involved in a serial killer focused on homeless people. It wasn‘t the most gripping book in the series but all in all a solid read.

Lindsay is pulled into a group of homicides outside her jurisdiction when an informant seeks her out. Someone has been murdering the homeless and no one seems to care. While getting backlash for venturing into another's jurisdiction, she also has health issues that are starting to worry her.
Meanwhile Yuki has a huge case. A man is crying rape, and she's defending him in court. Both sides are believable. Who is telling the truth? 4☆
