While this was an ok book about mountain climbing and had some good historical information. I found it a bit tedious and was very disappointed that there wasn‘t on single abominable snow man in the whole book. I think I just went into it expecting something different. I like Simmons as an author and know that he likes to be very detailed, but the book didn‘t live up to the description on the back cover

This set has been recommended by so many people that I had to go out and get it! They are pretty if nothing else. I don‘t normally buy brand new books, and almost never hard backs. Hope it was the right set to splurge in

Combine all the mythologies from around the world, bring it into modern time, throw in a couple of young heroes and mix them all together in an epic battle of good against evil and you come up with an almost perfect book!

A cute fantasy set in 1800s Ireland. The McGunnegal children set off a#in a grand adventure when their sister Colleen accidentally steps through a magic mirror to another world. Full of fairies and witches and goblins and dwarves.
Fair warning: there are actually two more books in the set

Just got this set! Historical fiction set in turn of the century Russia. Looks like it‘s also romance, which I don‘t usually read, but it also looks like it‘s got a lot of history. Can‘t wait to get started on them

Crazeedi Oh boy, I LOVE series and I LOVE Russian history! These check both boxes! 4y

A great combination of fantasy and history set in Japan. Two different story that at first seem completely unrelated gradually come together to make a complete whole.
Warning has some very graphic parts that are at times quite disturbing. Not for the faint of heart. I would definitely read more by this author

An alternate time line where everything is like it is now, but we are still in an ice age- and people have to hibernate. It‘s listed as a comedy but I would classify it as a mystery. I was a bit odd, kinda hard to get into, but in the end definitely worth the read.

The first book in a series of about 8. It covers the time where the Roman Empire is dying and the natives of the British isles are retaking control. Setting the stage for the coming of King Arthur- which happens in the 6th book I believe.
If you‘re a fan of historical fiction, this is a must read.

I got this book because I love the show. This it what it‘s supposed to be based off. The only similarity is that they have portals that can take them to other planets. So, as a reference to the show- I was disappointed. But as a stand-alone book of its genre, it was worth reading.

I don‘t generally like to give bad reviews, but I barely made it through this one. The basic story line was great and well written- and that made up about a third of the book. It was so constantly being interrupted by these mind numbing scientific details, that by the time they got back to the story you forget what was going on. If I wanted a science book I would have bought one.

Not my usual genre but a really incredible book. A modern day historian accidentally gets send back to the time of the Black Plague. In our timeline a desperate scientist faces his own challenges trying to get her back. A bit of a tear jerker but I couldn‘t put it down

ImperfectCJ My kids and I read Willis's Bellwether together and loved it. This one's on my TBR. If it's a tearjerker, it's probably a little different from Bellwether, which we found hilarious, but I like crying, too. 5y

If you‘ve read The Stand by Stephen King, you‘ll want to read this one too. They have many similarities but are not the same story, I actually liked this one better

Reggie I hope you read some of his other ones. A Boy‘s Life, Stinger, The Border. I love MacCammon. He‘s so good!!!! I was actually thinking about this book the other day because someone mentioned a mark of evil and said what would be the opposite. And for some reason I thought of the main girl in here who touched the trees and they grew fruit. 6y
Shaneyney @Reggie yes I‘ve read many of his books. I actually like him better than Stephen King. My favorites (along with this one) are Bethany‘s Sin and The Fall of the House of Usher (based on the old Poe story) 6y
