Oh my, this is a distressing read. I hope we will soon get the heroine we need.
#PersephoneClub
It‘s now April so that means it‘s time for one of our #PersephoneClub reads!
@Cathythoughts ‘ pick for us this month is The Shuttle by Frances Hodgson Burnett. This is a casual buddy read; read and comment on each other‘s posts and reviews as you see them. We usually aim to finish by the middle of the month but that‘s not written in stone. 😉 And anyone is welcome to read along with us, of course!
#PersephoneClub Sorry I can‘t get the Persephone covers to fit 🙈 … But these are my Persephone book choices @LeahBergen @rubyslippersreads @quietjenn @Caryl @sisilia @CarolynM @daena @elkeOriginal @Gissy @Aimeesue @Tamra @Bookbuyingaddict @julieclair @willaful @andrew61
Slower reading week here. 🤷🏼♀️
Uniquely Human was an amazing look into how neurotypical people can change their approach and understanding of autism. Really enlightening.
The Shuttle is fantastic, just long. 😂 Going to try and power through it today so I can include it in my October total lol.
Group is so meh imo. Not understanding the hype so far. #bookreport
A charming book about two sisters in the early 20th century- a time in which wealthy American girls were sometimes wedded to destitute British Aristocrats as a trade of mutual benefits. Not a fair trade in the case of timid Rosalie Vanderpoel, who finds herself wedded to the brutish Sir Nigel. As her sister Betty becomes involved to further investigate the situation, the book becomes compulsively readable. A pleasure to read 💕
Wild little Friday night 🍨

@AnnieD donated a carry on for our cause. About 75% of these books are mine. And yes, it‘s ALL books!!
I‘d say we were all successful.
Second Persephone trip in the books. 📚
Loved it! Very well-written book about the ties between England and America, particularly at the turn of the 20th century, crumbling English manors, and abusive relationships. FHB tends to romanticize the medieval ages (let‘s not forget they‘re also called “the Dark Ages”), blames bad stewardship instead of Industrialization for the crumbling properties, and treats “business” as all 1 thing. Still, I recommend this highly enjoyable read.
Some #oldcoolbooks with a pretty #spine design.(I love the little 🐘 on the one in the middle.)
@Linsy
This #Persephone is about American heiresses crossing the Atlantic to marry impoverished British aristocrats. They infused the Brits with #AmericanMoney and in turn adopted the titles & “ruled their lands as well”, so to speak. These marriages were happening frequently at the turn of the century, so much so that the ships were said to be crossing back and forth across the Atlantic like the weaving of a shuttle, hence the title. 💸💸💸

I love Persephone books, but I find the cost (+ shipping) is a little extravagant for me to go out and just buy them for myself, so for Christmas I gave my brother a #wishlist of Persephone books and he is very likely to get me exactly what I ask for, in fact he will probably just get the very first one listed! #jingleshelves
A Persephone #BookSpiral 😆

This is what happens inside these #PersephoneBooks?
Oh, HELL. I am a fan for sure...
Ok.
I am slightly terrified at what @Reviewsbylola has exposed me to in my #summersantagoespostal package.
My first Persephone book.
Plus a catalog - 'just in case' she says.
OMG. OMG. OMG.
Heaven help me.
This title sounds fascinating. I feel like this might be a turning point in my life with books...
