Book 5 - 2 hours on the bus everyday will give me plenty of time to read my latest thrift store find 🤓
This took a long time to get going, but the second half gets tense if not a little crazy.
The premise sounds like a lot of fun. And that‘s what I need now that I‘m back to working by myself during 2nd lockdown. 😔
I enjoyed the writing but felt bad that the book didn't aim higher. Still liked it.
I‘m on the fence on how to rate this book...it was quite well written and not bad but it just kinda lost me in the end. The ending was just like “oh ok”. For the whole focal point of the story to not be resolved in a satisfactorily way just kind of left me feeling unfulfilled. I‘d definitely give the author another chance as I did enjoy her writing style.
Book club made me do it! That‘s what I would call this picture, if it were a work of art. Both of these books were pitched at my book club at some point. They didn‘t end up being our picks but they both sounded really interesting to me so I picked up secondhand copies afterwards!
If you are in a book club, how do you go about picking the book you read each month?
I finished. And by finished I mean At 57% I just needed to know who did it so I skimmed the last two chapters. If you‘re a person who likes character development vs plot development in your mysteries and have a preference for slower paced mysteries this will probably work for you. #Mysteries #TheFrenchGirl
The body of a young woman, that went missing after a weekend away to France, turns up 10 years later. Enjoyed this as a murder mystery not the psychological thriller it was purported to be. Fun summer/beach read. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ 1/2
Another book that was ruined for me by all the buzz around it! It was still really good thought I was expecting a page turner I couldn‘t put down, this was more a slow burn.
I could not get into this book what so ever. 😤 I was about 40% into it, and I had no interest whatsoever. Since it‘s a Readathon, I want to keep the momentum, not slow it down... so I bailed. Oh well! Better luck with the next book. 🤷🏻♀️
#25inFive #Readathon @TheReadingMermaid @Andrew65 #24B4Monday #ReadHarder!
Started this one last night, and I‘m continuing it now tonight. I attempted to read a few chapters of What Alice Forgot, but I simply couldn‘t keep interest. Movie on to an audiobook, and hopefully I can finish off the other one later. So far, I‘m only at 3 hours, 20 mins for #25inFive
Blue skies, wine, and a book 🥰
It certainly wasn‘t the twistiest of books, but I didn‘t want to put it down. I enjoyed the story, and I‘ll def pick up her new book when it‘s released later this month!
I finished this a few days ago, basically a French girl is found murdered after 10 years. Suspects are the 5 people that visited the farmhouse where she was found. #books #bookcover #readingbooks
This felt like a promising read - a group of friends are forced to revisit a holiday ten years in the past where a French girl they met was later found dead - as the investigation is reopened and they‘re suspects, their inner anxieties and secrets surface. Their relationships are put under the microscope and betrayals are revealed. The ending was very anticlimactic and overall I was underwhelmed. Would recommend only if you‘re new to the genre.
I‘m really really enjoying this book. I like the characters and the devices the writer uses. Psychological thriller-lite about the aftermath of a French vacation gone wrong. It‘s keeping me interested and not wanting to finish the last 10%
#currentread So I've decided to start The French Girl by Lexie Elliott. It's only 296 pages so should be quite a quick read.
What are you planning on reading today?

Beautifully written and well paced literary psychological thriller. It‘s one of those slowly unravelling types of story where little pieces of information are fed to the reader like a lure, so that you are awaiting eagerly to learn what happens next. Although I had my suspicions, I had no idea how it would end. It was an unusual conclusion but justice was served even if a little ambiguously! A very enjoyable mystery.
4*
I've given this a pick as the story was good but the ending really let it down. I wanted a better resolution I must admit but I'm sure many others will love it.
AKA I Know What You Did Last Summer in France.
This one caught my eye at the library today. The synopsis sounds interesting but it has mixed reviews. Has anyone read this one? Thoughts?

Another so-so.. that‘s 2 in a row ugh! 😔😒 I could have dealt with some twists and/or turns in this one. Also a little background of the characters, or their trip. It kind of just fell flat for me.
Reading and trying to stay updated on my hockey playoffs until 8 hits and I can leave work!! #LetsGoPens #GoKingsGo
Starting this one before I do anything productive 😂 #amreading
This was quite good, not excellent. A comfortable, easy read. If you need high drama, suspense, or gore this isn‘t it. Entertaining in a sophisticated kind of way.
Enjoyed the quick little twist in the end, that slowed down the mystery and revealed new and old relationships.
Really enjoyed this mystery about 6 friends who spend a week at a farmhouse in France and 10 years later a body is found at the bottom of the well. Could one of them be a murderer?
This book just missed the mark for me. The writing was good and the plot was fine. I just didn't feel drawn in by the story or the characters. There are a lot of books that tell similar stories that I would recommend instead of this one.
My latest #workhaul #libraryhaul .. I‘m on this Feng Shui Thing right now.. 🤷🏻♀️

This one was quite good. I definitely recommend it. It's a mystery. As in, who actually killed the French girl? 💖📚

Six university students get together to spend a week in a French farmhouse. The French Girl next door goes missing. Ten years later the French Girl's body is found at the bottom of a well on the property. The investigation begins. Really enjoyed this book!
I could not put It down! 10 years after a trip to France that ended with the breakup of a relationship & the disappearance of a French girl the police find the body & reopen the case. What really happened on that long ago trip? Was it really as they remembered or did something sinister happen? Their friendship, their businesses, & even their lives may be at risk.
Thank you to NetGalley & the publisher for providing an ARC for my honest review.
Fell a little short for me. There‘s really not much excitement, it‘s a rather slow read for something being billed as a thriller.
Can you believe it‘s March already⁉️ I had another great reading month. I finished 7 books in total, a mix of audiobooks and physical books. Have you read any of these yet?

#cleartheshelvesgiveaway @mrozzz thanks for the giveaway! These are some awesome titles!
This one was practically a one-sitting read for me! Ten years later, the bones of the mademoiselle next door are discovered and brings six university friends back together to re-live that week! Engaging and entertaining, this would be a great book for your plane rides later in the month!
Well, this book certainly had me on the edge of my seat, wondering what happened to Severine, the French girl. It was fast-paced and that‘s exactly what I hoped for. My one problem is that when the truth came out, the French officer seemed to drop the whole case so quickly that it didn‘t seem quite right. He was so intent on getting to the bottom of the case and then nothing. But it was a thrilling read and a love story that I quite enjoyed!
Some novels are like rafting on a fast moving river. You are carried along through twists and turns, exhilarated, and perched on the end of your seat until the end. The French Girl is not such a novel. I compare the experience more to a leisurely float on a lazy river to a destination unknown. Peacefully and steadily moving along until its conclusion.

Woke up to this view this morning 💙💙 #PenascolaBeach
I really hate reading on Aldiko. The font is small and when you enlarge it you can‘t swipe to turn the page. Trying to finish this one tonight since I‘m in a hotel for work 😐
Pacing like Girl on the Train, echoes of the group of Secret History but in line with the writing style of Mary Kubica.
I think I like Kate (MC) but there was a bit too much inner questioning (I detest that about this genre) but the others don't feel fleshed out. I would have approved of making the book longer. Hard for me to believe the strength of the bonds between the group, and hard to care.
Did Elliott just learn the word "nonplussed"? ?
