Some days, all you need is a message from a stranger. Ruby Santos knew exactly what she was getting herself into when she signed up to write a soldier overseas. The guidelines were simple: one letter or email a week for the length of his or her deployment. Care packages were optional. Been there, done that. She thought she knew what to expect. What she didn't count on was falling in love with the guy.

This book is the definition of slow burn. The first part is a series of letters, emails and IMs between Ruby and Aaron who is away on deployment with the Army. I enjoyed this slow ramp up and it was obvious to me when their relationship became more than just penpals. I was so excited for them to finally meet up. Great characters and the plot was so realistic. 4.5⭐️.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ◼️ I realize that I haven‘t been posting much here or posting any reviews. Thank you to all who have sent me birthday cards. (It‘s tomorrow) I am saving them to open tomorrow. I finished this book just in time for my birthday and I wouldn‘t have it any other way since this is the 4th time I have read it. Here‘s the link. Enjoy! https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2087811501 #LitsyLove

Okay friends, here are some romance that have been on my TBR for a while and may work for #LMPBC!! Family for Beginners may be a bit more novel-y than romance, but I have enjoyed other of Morgan's books before so I left it on the list haha I have SO many to choose from, so I come up with another batch if none of these suit!!

kimmypete1 I have not read any of these! I‘ve read Matson and Morgan before, but absolutely willing to try a new to me author! 3y
DanaManiac I haven‘t read any of these and would go for any of them! 3y
TheAromaofBooks @robinb - Did you see this post? I want to make sure you haven't read any of them before I make a final call!! 3y
robinb Not sure how I missed this post, but any of these are fine with me! 👍 Sorry for the delay! 😊 (edited) 3y
TheAromaofBooks @robinb - No worries, sometimes Litsy doesn't let me know when someone tags me, so I just thought I would give you another holler!! 😆 3y
TheAromaofBooks @kimmypete1 @DanaManiac @robinb - I think I'm going to go with You Lucky Dog, but keep Save the Date as my backup in case the first one goes off the rails, which sometimes happens to me with these LMPBC reads for some reason 😂 I already own both of them, so that part should work out!! 3y
kimmypete1 @TheAromaofBooks sounds good to me! 3y
robinb Whatever works for you, Sarah, works for me. Unfortunately you‘ve just given me several more romances to add to my TBR! 😳😂😂 3y
DanaManiac Okay sounds good!! 3y
TheAromaofBooks @robinb - Right?! Everyone has really good choices this round!! It's been hard to narrow it down! 3y

I am embarrassed to admit that I have read this 4 times. Each time I am sucked in by the email/text correspondence that connects Ruby and Aaron through a Military Adoption Service the connect civilians to personal deployed. Just the right amount of romance/friendship.

November Book 17/25 #LitsyLove

TheAromaofBooks I've had this one on my TBR forever!!!! 4y

Brilliant approach!!!

I completely loved the fact that most of the book was written in the form of instant messages or emails between Aaron and Ruby. It's so fits today's life as well as military life (seeing as phones aren't readily available). Their banter was awesome. Their connection was electric.

*****I need more of Ruron!!! PLEASE!!!!!

Hey there @robinB @hes7 @LovesBooks87 - do any of these sound good for #LMPBC ? I always seem to be behind on reading new romances, so if everyone has already read these, I can choose a few more options from my never-ending TBR (see: I'm always behind on reading new romances haha) Let me know what you think!!

hes7 I‘ve read The Hating Game, but I‘d be up for one of the others. 5y
Lovesbooks87 I have read the hating game too. But I am okay with any of the others. 5y
robinb I‘ve read The Hating Game too 🤣. But any of the others are fine with me! 😊👍 5y

This was an impulse Kindle purchase for a couple of bucks... It quickly turned into the fastest 500 pages I've read in awhile! I'm assuming there is more from this author I need to investigate...

I liked the two main characters, Ruby & Aaron, and found the arch of their romance believable, but Ruby spent too much time apologizing. It‘s a small thing, but in a #romantsy, if the heroine is going to grow a backbone, it has to be with the support of the hero, not just for the hero. I love other works by this author and the next book in this series is amazing!

Saknicole Agreed. I remember reading this and feeling meh about it. 7y

You can find my thoughts on this book here: https://twitter.com/bookthingo/status/957904043870863360

In summary, it has sweet moments, but for the most part it was boring. No, I don‘t mean slow-paced or with a slow burn. I mean boring. There are similar but much better stories on Wattpad, and they‘re free.

Chachic No burn romance 7y
BookThingo @Chachic How, Chachic? How do I get those hours back??? 7y
bentchbites Thank you for your sacrifice. Haha! I read about this author somewhere before but only remembered when you were tweeting about it earlier. Haha 7y
BookThingo @bentchbites I recommend skipping this book. I‘ve hear a couple of her other books are very good, though. 7y

I have unexpectedly found myself reading this book. The main character is Filipino and there‘s a food scene that could be problematic. I‘m not up to that yet. Starts as an epistolary. Cute, but I thought the heroine was a teen. Turns out she‘s 23! You can find my livetweets here: https://twitter.com/bookthingo/status/957904043870863360

This was the perfect romantic meal of a book I needed to bring me back to center after the anger I felt after reading The Answers. Ruby Santos signs up to be a pen pal with a military serviceman stationed overseas. She gets paired with Aaron. Ensue romance. The first half of this book is e-mails and texts. My only gripe was how insecure Ruby could be but that doesn‘t take away all the smiling I did while reading this book.

minkyb Aw shucks, now I‘m smiling! 😁 7y
Reggie @minkyb 😊 lol, it was hard not to with this book. 7y

I‘m a sucker for the cheese!!!!! This easy breezy book, so far, has wiped away a layer of grime from my soul left by To Catch a Predator, Dateline NBC, The Craigslist Killer, The movie Catfish, every program on the ID channel. (Did I forget any?) These two characters watching a sunrise together, after the first time they met in real life, met as online pen pals, he in the military, her a civilian. It‘s quite nice.

Jas16 I liked this one too. 7y
Reggie @Jas16 Have you read any of her other ones? Were they good? 7y
Jas16 @Reggie I think I have read all of her books at this point. If you like slow burn romances ( and I do)then I think she is great. My favorites are Kulti and The Wall of Winnipeg and Me. I liked Wait For It a lot as well. 7y

Not my favorite book by Zapata. It was just a bit too slow, mostly due to the first part told just through email exchanges. And, it's a little difficult to enjoy a romance novel when the romantic lead shares a name with your brother. 😂

Listener15 Yeah, that would be awkward 7y

I really liked this. It's written in an email format/letter exchange for a good bit of it but I liked the change. #slowburn #romance #Augustbooks
