2021- no.13. I really enjoyed my 3rd book with DI McLean. For me it was just the right mix of gritty crime novel and supernatural strangeness! This is definitely a series that should be read in order and I‘m going straight on to book 4 because I‘m hesitant to leave Edinburgh behind.

It has been a crappy week to say the least and now it‘s raining. So there‘s nothing for it but to hide under a blanket and start the third in this series. I loved the first, was slightly disappointed by the second but have high hopes for the third based on other Littens opinions. ❤️hope you all have a lovely weekend ❤️

RachelAmphlett Hope your weekend is an improvement on last week! I can‘t remember if I‘ve read this one - will have to check... 4y
TrishB Hope you enjoy your reading. 4y
Magpiegem @RachelAmphlett @TrishB thank you ☺️ I‘ve had a nice weekend. Lots of reading and watching The Masters xx 4y

Bk3 in this weeks #LibraryHaul is the next book in DI McLean series.Think Rebus with a touch of Stephen King.In this instalment a young man is found hanging in his Edinburgh home. But McLean is puzzled by the curious suicide note. Then a 2nd suicide happens & his suspicions deepen. Then there‘s a third.I know it‘s not Xmas themed for the #WinterGames & #TeamNutcracker but I need a break from all the happy happy joy joy sometimes. 1pt #PointsTotal-396

Bookworm54 I love a thriller/mystery in the winter though ☺️ 5y

I enjoyed the third book in the series. A great writer, and even though occultism and paranormal things are not for me these things are not taking over the book, and in the end do not bother me, because it‘s a lot about relationships and power in the police force and in the protagonist‘s life in general. Every day two people hang themselves in Scotland, but these hangings do not seem to be suicides. Read it to find out what‘s going on! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

andrew61 I really like this series, i think i have just read book 5, so you've reminded me to find the next one. I like the characters and the underlying supernatural element. 5y

#LitsyAtoZ - O- Third in the series was a corker. Im not usually a fan of books that mix crime and the occult but this author does it really well and the Edinburgh setting adds to the atmospheric element, you can feel those little alleyways and the history looming down on inspector McLean as he battles his police colleagues and the very scary spooky villains.

Melissa_J My husband likes this series. I keep meaning to try the first book. 7y
andrew61 @Melissa_J the first has a very gory first chapter but if you can get through that they are worth trying. 7y

After a slow literary read this week which felt at times like it would never end friday night was time to start the perfect antidote, a tartan noir, a cadburys cream egg and a glass of wine- i know how to live life on the edge.

Andrew65 Loved this! Always good to be in Literary Edinburgh. ❤️ 7y
Andrew65 Love how your snack matches the book! 7y
andrew61 @Andrew65 nice detective work - didn't notice 😂 7y

This was an excellent book, the best of the series so far (and this is the third one). I am happy to read books out of order but if you read this series you must read then in order, as it is more like a serial than as Series as events build on what happened in the last one. I actually love the supernatural element of these, and played a bigger part of this one. Loving the series and very strongly recommended. Now need to get book 4!

Bluebird 🎉🎉🎉. Can't wait to get back to this one! The biggest downside to reading a physical book is when one is on the go and can only read by audio or snippets at a time of an ebook on a phone app. 😔 7y
Andrew65 @Bluebird I agree, I was a day late on this one this week due to work commitments too. 7y
andrew61 Great, this is the next in the series for me. 7y
Andrew65 @andrew61 Hope you enjoy it, some interesting developments in this one. 7y

Conan Doyle had been a true believer, hadn't he? Taken in by the hoaxers in his later years. Sad to see the mind that had invented Sherlock Holmes believing in faeries like a little child.

batsy A novel about this that I enjoyed (though not so Holmes-centric) 7y
Andrew65 @batsy Thanks for the recommendation, I will have to check it out. 7y

I'm starting off my #readathon with the next section of my Group Read of The Hangman's Song. Let's hope a busy week at work doesn't bring me down. Already lost 2 1/2 hours due to other commitments.

Looking forward to Dewey's Readathon tomorrow! Here's my shortlist. Well, it isn't so short after all! LOL! I've got a variety from which to choose since I'm a mood reader-will see what looks appealing at the time. I know I'll read the tagged book since it's for a librarything group read hosted by @Andrew65
I'm most looking forward to reading the graphic novel of Pride and Prejudice!

Andrew65 The Lucinda Riley book would tempt me, I love her books. 7y
Bluebird @Andrew65 Me too! I've had this book on my TBR shelf for years and decided I shouldn't put it off for much longer. 7y
Andrew65 @Bluebird I read and enjoyed that one but a different title here, 7y

This made me laugh! Apologies to any accountants out there!

DGRachel As an accountant, I have to say I agree. 😂 7y
Andrew65 @DGRachel 😂 I almost went for that career! 7y
DGRachel I actually fell into it. I majored in a English Literature, took a job as a temp receptionist for a construction company, and the Project Accountant hired me to help her out. The company didn't have an accounting clerk title, so I got hired as a full Project Accountant, was good at it, and the rest is 17 years of history. 😳 7y
Andrew65 @DGRachel Amazing how some things happen in life, what I call happenstance! 😊 7y
SilversReviews LOL...I was a business major, but switched out of the accounting part. I only took the two required accounting courses and stopped. :) 7y

Started The Hangman's Song for a Group Read, this is book 3 in the Inspector McLean Series, which is set in one of my favourite cities - Edinburgh. I have read and really enjoyed the first two books in the series, a detective series with just a hint of supernatural in the books. If you enjoy a good detective series I would recommend them - a good and interesting lead character. I love the colour of the cover, with the Forth Railway Bridge in shot.
