On a side note, my daughter and I decided to listen to GPS with a British accent yesterday. When we were told to take the “interchange” it was unclear if we were to go left or right. Now I know interchange was left to the freeway and expressway would have been used to go right into town.

I listened to this on and off while creating cosplays (lots of sanding outside). It‘s a cozy mystery with good narration. The reader has a soothing voice and is easy to listen to. It‘s the first of a series and while the characters solve the mystery by the end, they don‘t give up their own secrets. Some of the tropes are well-worn but I did love the protagonist, a widow who secretly draws political and satirical cartoons in Regency-era England

LOVE this Historical series. I can't get enough of Lord Wrexford, Mrs. Sloane and the weasels!

A Regency set mystery juxtaposing a satirical cartoonist who relies on her (and street urchins') artistic observation of details and a chemistry-loving overly rational Earl. Their skills complement each other as they seek to ferret out the culprit of a series of murders connected to alchemy and art.
I enjoyed this and am looking forward to more forays into the ton and St Giles with this pair.

I confess to having read this book about five years ago and as I listened to the audiobook, I realized I didn‘t remember any of it. This time around, I promise to remember it. It was quite enjoyable. I‘ve been listening to a number of historical novels that are mysteries. This Regency Era mystery is first in a series and I intend to read more of them.

I‘m listening almost exclusively to audiobooks now and the first and second books of the series currently are free with membership on Audible. When I decided to listen to listen to this book, I couldn‘t remember a thing I‘d read, which is pretty unusual for me. I found my Litsy post from five years ago and I liked the book. I wanted to like this one more than I did, but I also didn't DISlike it, if that makes sense? I think reading this novel as an ebook on my phone didn't help its case, either. I loved Charlotte and the Weasels, and Wrexford grew on me by the end, but the emotional growth felt a little more sketched out than fully fleshed, and some of the exposition just felt clunky. Maybe I'll give book 2 a go, but I'm not clamoring for it. #historicalmystery

Enjoyed this. I'll read her other book - Murder at Half Moon Gate.

I am so behind on reviews I don‘t know what I‘ve read for the #readathon and what I read before! 🤦‍♀️

This was a historical regency mystery set in London. There is a murder in a church and an Earl is accused of killing him. Wrexford is into chemistry and science. Charlotte is a “cartoonist” and draws all the town gossip secretly. She teams up the Earl to solve the murder.

You‘ve read this story before—in Regency London there‘s a brooding noble with hidden depths, a widow with secrets of her own, a shocking crime, dogged Bow Street Runner, & people behaving badly. Just because the story is familiar, however, doesn‘t mean that it isn‘t well told & fun to read because it is and this first outing is a solid start to an ongoing mystery series. Light and fun I‘ll probably continue with the series.

A low pick for me. The plot of this Regency-era mystery set in London was messy and not totally plausible, but I liked the Dickensian characters and setting.

Yes. I started another cozy mystery series. No, I'm not remotely sorry. I loved that this was very logic based in its approach to solving the crime. Wrexford and Sloane have more of a meeting of the minds than anything else and their partnership is slowly built upon mutual respect and then trust. I'm very glad I decided to pick this up.

A great start to this mystery series! A female satirist living in genteel poverty teams up with a Duke with a hobby in scientific experimentation to solve crimes.

Current read a Regency murder mystery with a touch of #romantsy

Always a thrill to finish a book when the week begins ;D
Glad to read the beginning of the partnership between the detached earl, believer of empirical knowledge over emotions, and the intuitive satirical artist.
Not necessarily a strong plot but the dynamics between characters make this a page-turner for me.
Off to finish my doublespin book and search for the 3rd book in this series!

And spare me the platitude about the pen being mightier than the sword. Let the idiot who said such drivel try walking through the stews of London at night.

I just love a pair solving a mystery! This Regency era series features an interesting combo of an earl/chemist and a widow/satirical artist. I look forward to learning more about these two in future books, as well as more of the endearing little street urchin brothers who are key side characters. 💕

Regency England comes to life in this first in a series. Strong characters, with danger lurking in the London fog and talk of alchemy, lead the storytelling. The ending has piqued my interest for book two.

This historical mystery was so good! Can't wait to get my hands on the next book in the series!

An interesting regency mystery, with complex characters & good prose. Raven & Hawk in particular utterly stole the show! The last third was more of a thriller, as the answers were found rather quickly & the villain was who they thought it was. Also, I could have done without the small instance of racism towards my people close to the end — it spoiled my liking of the story considerably, for obvious reasons. Let‘s see how it goes in book 2! ★★★☆☆.

I got this book as part of my murder mystery subscription from my local indie bookstore. Loved every second of this regency mystery set in London, complete with chemistry, an earl and a feisty illustrator. Cosmo was too sleepy to argue against the picture. #catsoflitsy Thank goodness for this book to distract me from a book club book I‘m hating!

I‘m enjoying this, but it‘s slow going. Real Life seems to be getting in the way. Mom has Alzheimer‘s and she‘s not doing well. Reading is having to take a back seat to Mom‘s needs at this time.

This was a fun, quick read. I enjoyed the team of the Earl, m‘lady, and the weasels. I‘ll definitely be picking up the next book in this series #whodunitthesequel

It took me a few chapters to get into the writing style, but I quite liked this Regency mystery. Partnering an artistic, poorer woman with a scientific aristocrat made for an interesting pairing of protaganists. The side characters were also fantastic.

I did guess whodunit before the characters did, but it took awhile. No more details, though, as I don't want to give away something for the other #whodunitthesequel readers.

I'd give it a solid 4⭐

So excited that my #whodunitthesequel package came and I got to pick it up today. Looks really good. Can't wait to read it, @robinb, and sorry I was only able to pick it up today!
