I have to say... I wasn‘t expecting to like this book as much as I did, based on the reviews and GR rating. It‘s kinda trippy, purposefully misleading, and twisty, but I liked it and never lost interest. I also found the mother strangely relatable, even if I wanted to shake her sometimes.
This was my last book for #Booked2020! It was the #BottomOfYourTBR book I chose, because it was my very oldest BOTM unread book.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Eleven books read in January - not a bad start!
6 print, 5 audiobooks
6 from my own shelves, 5 borrowed/library books
17/144 reading challenge prompts completed
And with Good as Gone, the random pick from @emtobiasz , I completed my challenge to get me out of my reading slump.
And it worked!!! I‘ve torn through several more books since I finished this up a few days ago. So thank you all! This was even more effective than the #MakeMeReadIt I tried a year or so ago by voting on books I chose. If I do this again it will be by random draw.
Quickly, this book was great 👍🏻 Twists & turns I never expected
WOW. I did not anticipate this story taking the direction it had.
Eh, I had really high hopes but thought this was predictable and the reverse chronological, every third chapter seemed overly schticky to me. I don‘t think schticky is a word, but it adequately describes this book. This was just okay, just slightly over the pan button for me.
Interesting novel. The story of what happens to a family after their 13-year-old daughter disappears and returns 8 years later. Definitely suspenseful as the story kept confusing me (in a good way) and changing my mind about what I thought was happening. #MountTBR #LitsyAtoZ #LetterG
My mother died before Julie‘s hips ever filled out a skirt. She never saw me get my first heart-stop—that moment when you look at your girl in a certain light and see that she‘ll eventually become a woman, and it reminds you of every boy who put a pencil up your skirt when you walked ahead of him on the stairs, every man who stared at you at the bus stop, every honk on the street, every leering comment.
Happy Mother‘s Day fellow mothers. At a reasonable hour our bedroom door slid shut and a note that said ‘Do not exit this room‘ was left behind. No problem kids. I‘m happy to stay in bed reading while you get all my gifts ready and your father gets me a cup of tea and makes me Swedish pancakes. They took me on a picnic to Stanley Park which is a gorgeous old homestead up the road. #iwokeuplikethis #lmpbc #Groupx @thegreensofa @Sarz @BecH @suvata

I loved this! It's by no means perfect, but I really enjoyed it.
Not much commentary though, girls - sorry! #lmpbc @thegreensofa @LapReader @BecH
(P.S. That's Minnie at the end of the bed, keeping my feet extra warm. Love my puppers!! #dogsoflitsy 😍)
I am watching my sisters boys overnight. I have a feeling it is going to be a long night. The one year old is sleeping, and for the moment so is the almost 3 year old. 3 has been diagnosed with Speech Apraxia, with possible anxiety and ADHD. Instead of being in bed tonight I am on the couch with 3. I have a new appreciation for Mom's of special needs kids. Glad I could give my Sis a break, but send positive vibes that we make it through.
Tax time. Kids on tablets to keep them occupied. I am starting this book, because I forgot my book at home.
Finished up all my books that I had a little bit left in today. #goals !!! This was okay. Interesting abduction story and use of time. Reminded me of The Good Girl by Mary Kubica a little bit. Not bad, just a little odd in the way that it came together and not in a way that I was excited about.
Love, love, love this book. I did not want to put it down nor did I want it to end. It was so unique and heart-breaking and interesting!
Quick read and great start to 2019. A page turner and not sure how it‘s going to end book with a bit of redemption in the end.
This was a bit better than I expected based on the minimal synopsis, & while I know some people found the structure confusing, I thought it was interesting & made sense for the story the author was telling. I was definitely hooked & wanted to get to the end. But at the same time, there were a lot of plot holes & things left unaddressed, and most of the handful of characters were pretty flat. A decent read, but not super memorable, I guess. 3/5 ⭐️
On Goodreads, a review that begins “this is one of the best books I‘ve read this year” is immediately followed by one that begins “Absolutely hated this book, really ZERO stars, what a jumbled mess.” 😝😝😝 Let‘s see which camp I end up in! #nowreading
Here is a stack of #botm books I‘ve read. Show me yours! #bookstack - #readingresolutions 📚
I read #GoodAsGone a couple years ago and it‘s one of my favorite thrillers!
Blurb: “If you love a measured and thought-provoking novel of #suspense, with one eye on character study and one eye on a city‘s conflicted culture, this might just be the next book for you...[This Book delivers with] crisp, unobtrusive writing and well-executed plot twists.”
A kidnapping story that could have been good but went terribly awry. Lots of rabbit trails and unanswered questions. Kind of like when you're watching a movie and you say, "Really? That door just happened to be there?!?" and your spouse replies, "It was in the script." Yeah, that.
Modern Mrs. Darcy‘s list of unputdownables are, in fact, unputdownable! A list of page-turners, without a doubt. Starting this one tonight.
Full of #suspense

That was a rollercoaster of a book. 13 year old Julie is taken from her home one night and returns almost a decade later. Every character has secrets and demons that come to light as we learn the truth about Julie's disappearance. The bond between mother and daughter play an important part in this story. This book made me think about my relationship with my daughter. Have I been a good mom to her?
This is available through Kindle Unlimited.
This book is freaking me out and I'm only 50 pages in. What really happened to Julie? It seems like she completely fabricated her abduction story. And, this is one messed up family.
Trying an audiobook for the first time. Really enjoying being able to read while driving! And this book is really good the reader does the narration very well
Yay! 🎉 Sooo much #BOOKMAIL today! 📚📬📦 Both of my #BOTM boxes arrived today—but that‘s not all! I also received a #BOTM edition of one of my favorite psychological thrillers, #GoodAsGone, from the lovely @TheLibrarian ! I am super excited to add this one to my ever growing #bookofthemonth collection. Thanks so much Carrie! It looks so pretty on my bookshelves! 😍 #Bookhaul #newbooks
My Lisa Jewell book is missing the botm symbol on the spine🧐
Thanks for the chance to win the #Beloveds! AmyGentry is one of my newer favorite authors of #Psychologicalthrillers and I loved this debut #GoodAsGone. I also really like these authors Gillian Flynn, Lisa Lutz, Paula Hawkins (one of them), Gilly Macmillan, Ruth Ware (some of them), Kate Morton, Mary Kubica (esp. #TheGoodGirl), BA Paris, and more! #ReadingResolutions - #LitsyGiveaways
✨I bought #goodasgone by #amygentry at a library book sale over a year ago. I still haven‘t read it. 😂 I‘m so terrible. I buy so many books and it takes me ages to get to them. I know I‘m not the only one with this issue. QOTD: About how many books do you own that you haven‘t read yet?✨
Wellllllll that was some weird shit. 🤔
I leave on an airplane for vacation tomorrow so today is jam packed with stuff that needs done. My nail appt with my mom isn't for 1.5 hours though. Hoping to finish this one before then. ❤️
I mean it was good but it wasn‘t. So much jumping around and none of the characters were very likable except Jane.
I really enjoyed the structure of this book. It had me hooked, but the payoff was kind of so-so in my opinion.
I put off reading this as I‘ve realized I‘m a little tired of Gone Girls right now. I‘m less than 100 pages in and really enjoying this one. I feel that I‘m being taken for a ride, and I‘m excited to see where it goes.
This was a really quick read, that literally kept me guessing. It occurred to me that the plot gets a confusing when I tried explaining in to a curious group of students. It wasn't as unexpected as I hoped, but it was super engaging, edge of your seat, a good pick for fans of thrillers. #classroomread
I‘m between a pick and so-so on this one. It was interesting and a little suspenseful, but I had a hard time with the main character. The choices she made just were not believable at all. I also don‘t like how the author vilified religion.
2 child abduction books in a row...this was another really good one. I loved all the twists and how it had me rethinking what I thought I knew throughout.
Starting this next on my prime reads account. Anyone read It?
Between the library book sale and the three thrift shops I hit up afterward, today was a VERY good day.
The allure of my bed was so strong last night that not even the excitement of opening my #halloweengoespostal package was enough to keep me awake! Opening parcels in the morning is quite an excellent start to the day tho - and I‘ve been spoilt! Books off my Litsy tbr, spooky socks, colouring in book, and chocolate (which is coming to work with me) and the cutest Halloween card I‘ve ever received (ok, it‘s my 1st ever Halloween card) THANKS LIDIA!
Loved this book so much! I listened to the audio and had a hard not listening to it. So good!!!
I found the use of religion as a tool to brainwash a child almost too much to take. This story was so painfully real. 💔
