Second book in this trilogy. Sunny is 13 y/o but her behavior seems mature for her chronological age. Since a year has passed, the story is more mature and complicated. Again there are parts that could be excellent for discussion with minors. I still like parts of this world and love Sunny. Definitely I‘m not the best audience for this trilogy. This book has a rating of 4.23⭐️In GR. My opinion is unpopular. 3⭐️I will finish the trilogy.

It has been almost a year since I read the first book in this series. However, I was quickly transported back into this unique world of magic and folklore as if I never left.

My favorite part of this book was seeing the growth and maturity of our 4 central characters as they discover who they are and what they are capable of.

This whole chapter on how Sunny need to learn to control herself and her magic was well done. This book Is very good on bowing their are consequences. Doesn‘t matter if you‘re the chosen one. Growth is not linear. That we learn again alongside Sunny. Character growth doesn‘t happen much through the book, but it‘s there. Slow most of the story with spikes throughout

I have the day off and the weather here is cold and snowy, so I'm taking a long midday soak in a hot bath with a favorite audiobook playing.

I read the first two books of this series last year and loved them so much, I just had to check out the audiobook versions, too, and I'm glad I did!

It's been a good weekend: a beautiful drive to and from my alma mater for the big local festival and parade, some fun time with family, and I finally finished another fabulous Nnedi Okorafor book.

Crazy day at work, so I didn't get quite as much reading done as I'd have liked, but I'm loving this book just as much as the previous one!

While I enjoyed this book, I did not like it as much as Akata Witch. I felt like the first 75% of the book was really slow and all the action took place in the last 25% of the novel. However, the action towards the end of the novel made up for the first part of the book dragging on. Sunny's character development also seemed to stall for most of the book, but did pick up at the end once again.

It took me waaaaaaaaaay too long to pick up book two. This world immediately sucked me back in like I never left though. Sunny is just a wonderful character and this series is so unique, interesting, and beautifully told. I‘m going to have a difficult time putting this down at night. 😬

October was bit of a lower reading month for me, and mostly library reads since I‘ve had absolutely no self control with library holds lately. Hoping to tackle more of the TBR in November and December... once I get through the remainder of the library pile...😬

I really enjoyed this 2nd installment of Sunny‘s adventures, as a more confident, more experienced Sunny sets out on another adventure with her friends. I loved seeing more of her world, meeting new & fascinating creatures, and seeing Sunny‘s relationship develop with her brother. As in the 1st book, Sunny‘s growth in magic parallels her personal growth—so well done. I really want to read the next book, as there was such a teaser at the end!

Sunny has now been part of the Leopard community for 2 years now. She‘s faced a lot of dangers but has learned so much more than she would have thought. Things seem to be going well with her schooling and mentoring but reoccurring dreams and new threats are forcing Sunny and her friends to set out on another adventure that pushes Sunny‘s abilities with the wilderness, her spirit face, and her juju.

This was a great sequel that I listened to on audio. I‘m interested in the Grasscutter. At a reader‘s request, the author posted a drawing of it on Twitter and it looks so cute and mischievous!

I enjoyed the audio of this and while it didn‘t blow my mind I did find I enjoyed and wanted to keep listening #7of2020 🎧

Let me try to explain to you just how much I already miss this world..... well, I don‘t think I can 😂
This is the 2nd book in the series, and I loved it more than the 1st. Still don‘t feel like it‘s a middle grade series - despite the main characters‘ ages, it‘s super adult-y with plenty of scary situations and circumstances.
There‘s a 3rd one coming out too 😁😁😁

Finished this yesterday while in the waiting room at the orthodontist! Spiders feature prominently 😲, so I thought my 🕷 table runner an appropriate backdrop. A stellar follow-up to Akata Witch, I actually enjoyed this one more than the first. The fantastic world-building continued in this one, and we watch the 4 main character continue to change and grow; I look forward to the next one and hope it is published soon!

Delightful! I enjoyed this one just as much as Akata Which. Nnedi Okorafor is really good at creating a fantasy world linked to some beliefs.

This series got even better with the second book. Nnedi‘s worlds are amazing!

This is a book to lose sleep over. Multiple nights in a row. This picture might be too far, but the clock says 1 AM. Every night I‘ve had this book it‘s read near or later to that. I love the images and ideas Okorafor winds and hope she keeps writing Sunny‘s stories.

It‘s been hard for me to find time to listen to the audiobook version. I REALLY like it but I have to pay extra attention because of the reader‘s (beautiful but sometimes hard to understand)accent 💙Thus I decided “heck why not buy both books with my $20 birthday gift card? Thanks to that, I only had to pay 2 cents for two books 🎉🎉🎉

Day 5 of the GoRuck 1 mile with added weight - pic from yesterday 🏋🏻‍♀️ While Texas has been absolutely INSANE with 20 degree weather & freezing rain, I have enjoyed my weighted Rucks surprisingly. The Audiobook to the tagged book helps quite a bit 🤗 Because I started on the 4th, I have had to Ruck 2️⃣ miles a day to make up for those lost days. Today ( when the rain calms down) will be 3️⃣ miles because Thursday was 20 degrees with high wind.

VERY HAPPY 💙Libby ebook due in 1 day, and I have 1 1/2 hour left and no time tomorrow to read it physically. Found the audio book on Scribd and reader‘s voice is PERFECT. I think I‘m going to listen tomorrow while doing my first February GoRuck Weight mile walk. Starting low at 14 lbs, but going to jump by 5 lbs a day since I have to add weight each day 😳💪🏻

Don‘t like this new feature on Libby- can‘t renew it 😱 Between work and CrossFit in the evenings right after, I‘m too tired to read in the evenings. Thus weekends are my usual reading periods but the past 2 weekends ( including this one) have been total CRAY. Guess what I‘m going to try to finish today ?

I finished this one almost as quick as the first one. I am so in love with this series that I had to hug myself afterwards.
No Spoilers - Think of the “flaw” or “weakness” that you have. Now imagine that being the one part of you that was actually your strength. Nnedi has a way with words and developing alternative realities that make you feel like you‘ve been there before.

Mom and I played hooky after lunch and went Christmas shopping at BN. She freely admitted she wanted use of all my coupons and gift cards. This was our combined haul except for the two travel books she kept for my aunt. Voltron only made it to my house so I could wrap it and hid it from dad. The books are unofficial Fortnight stories for my bros girlfriends son. He‘s a gamer so hopefully he likes them. while checking out BN computer went 💥

I have been in such a foul mood all week because I haven‘t finished a single book. The effects of the smoke from the Camp Wildfires makes the air difficult to breathe which has caused headaches /exhaustion. But, I cant complain since I have a home while friends have lost everything. Now that the smoke is clearing a little, I need to get my reading groove back. I‘m very excited to dive back into this story to see what Sunny is up to now.
