And we're off to the Twelfth Night Ball! 🎭

I jumped in late on this one and didn't know it was the 12th book in the series. Having the idolized author Jane Austen as the detective in these series was such fun! A cozy yet well-researched holiday tale of murder in the world of Austen, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about the actual 12 Days of Christmas and how they were celebrated as well as the mysterious deaths at The Vyne. If you love Austen, you'll enjoy this detective tale.
The Eleventh Day is all about preparations for Twelfth Night party.
One of these days I'm going to attempt to make a Twelfth Night Cake. 📖🎄🎂

July 🥵 or January 🥶?
Yesterday I was out and about in Tulsa and my car thermometer read 102F/39C. I could really use some January cold right now.
How about you?

When I originally read Jane and the Twelve Days of Christmas for my #JaneandtheYear2020 Readalong I remarked that this quote described my 2020. This time reading, after the House Fire, it spoke to me because books have been such a comfort.

As an Auntie myself, I can get behind this theory. ❤❤❤❤❤
Sadly I can't do sound of crackling yule log here. But you can see over on my Instagram.

And we are off....Prologue - Christmas Eve:
“Such gaieties as we shall have,” Cassandra attempted, hastening to remove her gloves, the better to wrestle with her bonnet, “now that Christmas is upon us.” “Twelve days entire of rank frivolity,” I agreed sardonically.

This is one of my favorites in the series. Goodreads tells me I first read over the 12 Days of Christmas 2018/2019. I had lost track of this series and hadn't read several of the middle books. Jane 12 made me want to reread whole series which I did with #JaneAndTheYear2020. It's become a Christmas Tradition. Looking forward to #JaneInJuly. 📖🎁🎄
#JaneAndTheExcellentReadalong is celebrating #ChristmasInJuly!
This will be my 4X reading. (Thanks Goodreads for keeping track of that.) Usually I start reading on Christmas Eve and read along the 12 Days of Christmas. I've worked out a Schedule for July.
I'll be sharing Spoiler Free things that I saved from my #JaneAndTheYear2020 Readalong. Spoilers in the July 31 Discussion post. 📖🎁🎄

This was my last audiobook in 2021 and my first in 2022. It was the perfect time for it! I enjoyed the descriptions of Christmas celebrations in England during the Period. Always love the language and manners of the time. Jane Austen as solver of murder mystery was delightful. Plot complicated. I do believe reading the print copy would have helped. Ended with a Children‘s Ball on Twelfth Night and thus, the photograph. ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️
"As the parlour clock began to strike twelve, I opened the kitchen door to let the Old Year out. Then I hurried along the passage to the parsonage hall, and on the stroke of twelve, threw wide the front door to let the New Year in."
Happy New Year! ???
And yet we are still eating. 😋

Current and timely Hoopla audiobook. #blameitonlitsy
As an Auntie I wholeheartedly agree with this statement❣

The First Day: "The snow ceased to fall during the night, and it was a sparkling world that greeted us this Christmas morning." - Quite a different tale here in Oklahoma. Can't remember a time I've set outside on Christmas Morning. It's currently 64F/18C.
So my #literarytravels are taking me to ?? w/#janeandthetwelvedaysofchristmas & Georgie from #royalspyness.

We're having a weird warm snap with forecast record highs for Christmas Eve and Day. Today we listened; tomorrow we might actually set outside and read. 🎄
Officially bailing on my #BookSpin for the month of December. I tried to read this one last year too and just thought it was me. Tried again this year and this book is pretty boring to me. I‘m officially bailing and won‘t give it a third try!

The author clearly loves re-creating Jane Austen's world and seemed to put more effort into describing Regency Christmas traditions than in creating a mystery. But it eventually got going and nothing was too obvious. It was pleasant and seasonal if a bit too slow and too long. Between a so-so and a pick.
Fulfills the Agatha Raisin/amateur sleuth prompt for #CloakandDaggerChristmas
I really enjoyed this audiobook! While it‘s definitely slower than the contemporary stories I‘ve been listening to lately I liked the old-fashioned feeling and the mystery at the heart of the story (which I didn‘t guess, which is always good). 🌟🌟🌟🌟 26 points for team #mistletoemaniacs #wintergames2021 . Also used as the free space on my #averymerrybingo board!
I read the first book in this series and was underwhelmed, but decided to give this a try since it‘s been on my radar the last few years. I DNF very rarely, but this is my first DNF of the year. I got 2 hours in and was bored to tears. The characters seem stuffy without much personality. Life is too short to read books you aren‘t enjoying!

It‘s always the missing person of the party who is murdered. Good thing Jane Austen is on the case!
1st Finished Book of 2021! I've been doing a lot of Timeline Readalongs and made a start on Chapter a Day War & Peace, just haven't finished anything until now. 🤓

I want to do this. Sadly I have no parlour clock that chimes. Will have to download some chimes for my phone alarm.
Our New Year's Eve/Day Traditions aren't changing that much. Never been go out on the town people. I do always dress up even to drink champagne at home. In a normal year I would invite a few friends. Obviously this year that's not happening. Food Traditions stay the same, just in smaller quantities. ⬇️
This pretty much sums up my 2020. 📚

I couldn‘t really get into this book, and eventually ended up switching to audio just to finish. I really wanted to like it though so I‘m blaming 2020 and planning on trying again next year.
