The First Day: "The snow ceased to fall during the night, and it was a sparkling world that greeted us this Christmas morning." - Quite a different tale here in Oklahoma. Can't remember a time I've set outside on Christmas Morning. It's currently 64F/18C.
So my #literarytravels are taking me to ?? w/#janeandthetwelvedaysofchristmas & Georgie from #royalspyness.

Happy Christmas! ???

While my Literary Travels take me to Sotherton in August here it's all of 21°F here in Oklahoma. And it's supposed to get colder over the next few days. 🐸

Tamra Let‘s all take a lesson from Frog - he‘s one with the season. 😌 We‘ve been frigid in MN! I don‘t know how wildlife manages. 4y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @Tamra Oklahoma Mesonet post a thing about how today was the 10 year anniversary of of the coldest day in recorded Oklahoma History -31 just barely 2 counties away. We hit -23 that day. Could be worse! 4y
Linsy Love that frog! 4y

Pickpick

While I have a lovely espresso machine, sadly I have no Pain au Chocolat.
My only complaint is the Open Ending. Honestly you could have a another book about what happens after this day. However the author leaves it to your imagination. Leaves me with unfinished feeling. Also left me with a desire to learn more about the celebrities you get a glimpse of in Paris 1927. 🥐☕🇫🇷

Crinoline_Laphroaig Favorite Quote: "He remembered his mother once telling him that there were more than three hundred types of cheese made in France. Souren had solemnly replied that one day he would go there and try every one.
There were worse reasons to choose a place to live."?

The Long Call | Ann Cleeves

Pickpick

One of my favorite things about Ann Cleeves writing is her ability to make the setting a character as well. It's one reasons I loved her Shetland series. This time it's Devon. Once again I'm getting out my Big Britain Road Atlas to find the best Route.

More Review in the Comments. But long story short; I look forward to reading more of this series. 📚

Crinoline_Laphroaig 1st in new Two Rivers series and it introduces Detective Matthew Venn. He's quiet, introspective, and sometimes unsure of social settings. Interesting backstory of leaving his parents strict evangelical religion. I'd definitely read a prequel of how he became the man he is today; good at his job and happily married. You get some of that here but you know there's more to the story.

Crinoline_Laphroaig I also like Sergeant Jen Rafferty. She's the total opposite of her boss. Fiery personality. Divorced from abusive husband with teen age children. It makes for a good team. 5y
emmaturi I loved the Shetland books, never read the Vera ones. I will try this new series! 5y
Crinoline_Laphroaig @emmaturi I've read all of Shetland which I loved. I've only read one Vera it's was good and I'll read more but this one really grabbed me. Probably the whole leaving your parents religion thing. Been there. Done that. Although not nearly as dramatically as Matthew Venn. 5y

Quite different that other Granchester novels, no mysteries to solve. Glimpse of Detective Sidney. 📺 & 📚Sidney go their separate ways later in the series, this will appeal to Fans of both. Sidney becoming Sidney in War, Peace, Faith, and Love. All the moments that make him the man he is. Insight into a beloved character. Sidney could convince me to go to Church. 🤓 #sidneychambers #bookvstv

Blustery day when I made it to the Wall of Books at Kansas City Central Library. My Jane Austen scarf kept slapping me in the face. Since Pride and Prejudice wasn't one of the books I went with Willa Cather for my Shelfie. 📚🌬🤓

Crinoline_Laphroaig @Zelma Didn't get to go in. It was after hours. We were on our way to see Pride and Prejudice at KC Repertory. Still plan to go visit and spend some time. Next time I'm up that way. 6y
vivastory I used to live in an apartment directly across from that library. They were called Library Lofts 6y
