I combined two different patterns to make the blue and white mittens above, my fifth and final pair in 2018. (Red mitten pattern is from the tagged book. Black & white photo is from Nordic Knitting Traditions.) #knittersofLitsy

Inspired by Linvik‘s sheep and cow mitten designs in this book, I used the blank graph pattern at the back to create my own design. I‘m very happy with the results. 😊#knittersofLitsy

batsy That's lovely, well done! 6y
Lindy @Tanisha_A @TrishB @batsy Thanks! Design explanation: My brother has a small herd of bison and the wild rose is the floral emblem of my province. I added the braid above the cuff to represent sweetgrass, which is still used in ceremony by some Indigenous communities whose lives were once centred around bison. 6y
julesG I love them! 6y

Out for the maximum loan, so it‘s going back to the library, but it‘s left its mark: 3 pairs of mittens plus lots of inspiration for more. Exquisite design details include tiny owl on thumb with tail in the thumb gusset; feather pattern on palm. Also, cuffs of fox mitts are like fox tails. There are a few typographical errors, possibly due to #translation from Norwegian, but it‘s easy to figure out what is meant in each case. #knittersofLitsy

Mitch Oh my goodness - you‘re so talented! They‘re amazing. ❤️❤️❤️❤️ 6y

minkyb They are beautiful. Talented! 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled I don‘t think my skills are up to par! I haven‘t tried mittens yet! 😬 6y
Lindy @ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Mittens are actually pretty easy, if you know how to increase and decrease, knit in the round, and to follow a graphed pattern. These designs never have more than 2 colours going at once. Trickiest is picking up stitches to create the thumb; get a more experienced knitter to help with that. 6y
Dolly Bee-u-tiful! ❤️. Were you able to watch TV or converse while knitting? 6y
ErickaS_Flyleafunfurled Ok! Thanks for the heads up! YouTube videos have been helpful for me too. I‘ll get a knitting consultant for the thumbs 👍 6y
Lindy @Dolly I mostly listen to audiobooks or podcasts while knitting. 🎧 6y
MeganAnn These are absolutely beautiful!! 💛 6y
arubabookwoman Those are beautiful! 6y
LeahBergen My mind is blown every time I see these. I adore them! 6y
kspenmoll Gorgeous! Amazing! 6y
blithebuoyant This fair isle is gorgeous! I wish my tension was this consistent! 6y
Lindy @blithebuoyant Thanks! I‘m using the “magic loop” method on a single circular needle. Stretching the knitting after every round helps to keep it even. There isn‘t the danger of stitches falling off, as there is when using double pointed sets, so I can stretch with impunity. 6y
blithebuoyant @Lindy I‘ve been in a sock craze with my 9in circulars lately! My sister has a sock obsession and I don‘t wear them so they‘re going to good use for sure lol 6y
Lindy @blithebuoyant I haven‘t made socks for a long time; mittens, as you can see, are my flavour of obsession. 😉 Have you made tiny socks for your new nephew? 6y
blithebuoyant @Lindy I haven‘t! I hate DPNs with every fiber of my being 😂 6y
Lindy @blithebuoyant You can knit small circumference on a large circular needle by using the magic loop method. Google the term if you haven‘t seen this before, of check here: https://www.craftsy.com/knitting/article/demystifying-the-magic-loop/ 6y
blithebuoyant @Lindy I used magic loop for a pair of mitts once! I didn‘t think about that :) I‘ll try that. 6y

I was so inspired by Linvik that I have used the blank mitten pattern at the back of the book to design my own. The tricky part has been to incorporate a thumb gusset into a mitten designed for a different style of thumb. I‘ve done a bunch of test swatches, but I haven‘t yet started the actual mittens. #knittersofLitsy

LeahBergen I can‘t wait to see how they turn out. 👌🏼 6y

Second pair of mittens that I created from patterns in the tagged book. I‘m halfway done a third pair, but I‘ve set that project aside to look after more pressing things, such as preparing for the literary salon we‘ll be hosting at our home on Wednesday.
#knittersofLitsy

FeastOfFiction Wow! That‘s really impressive! And what is a literary salon?? 7y
DivineDiana Your skills continue to astound me! 7y
AmyG Just beautiful. 7y

Lindy @FeastOfFiction The way that my group of 12 friends have been doing literary salons is to take turns hosting a monthly evening gathering in our homes. We come prepared to read something aloud (max 5 minutes) that pertains to that month‘s theme (chosen by the host). This month, it‘s “levity, lifting, lightness.” Poetry, prose, manifesto... anything goes. 7y
minkyb Fabulous! 7y
hermyknee These are gorgeous! 7y
Lindy @MissHel Here‘s a photo, as promised. 7y
Lindy @minkyb @hermyknee Thanks. 😊 7y
MissHel @Lindy they‘re adorable! 7y
ElishaLovesBooks Stunning 💕 And they look so cozy too! 7y
xicanti Beautiful! 7y
Lindy @ElishaLovesBooks @xicanti Thanks! The yarn is a wool/alpaca mix so they are soft & cozy. They are a bit small on me, however, so I plan to gift them to someone with smaller hands. 7y
sprainedbrain Those are gorgeous! 7y
ElishaLovesBooks @lindy That is one lucky person!!😊 Such a nice gift! 7y
Lindy @sprainedbrain Thanks. I‘m using the same two yarns in a different pattern for another pair of mittens, and this time they are a better fit on my hands. 7y
CouronneDhiver Really great job! You should sell some... I‘d buy! 👍🏽 7y
Lindy @CouronneDhiver I‘m glad you like them. I can‘t imagine selling because the price would be prohibitive. Costs: $26 for the needle; $11 for purple yarn; $30? for one-of-a-kind fuschia/orange wool that was hand dyed and homespun by my sister; 30+ hours of knitting. 7y

CouronneDhiver Well done - those are great! 7y
readordierachel They look so good! 7y
Lindy @CouronneDhiver @ReadOrDieRachel Thanks. They feel great too; the yarn is a wool/alpaca blend. 7y
lahousewyfe Love! The fox is too cute. 7y
Lindy @lahousewyfe Thanks. The fox on the left mitten is in a different position, with a crow above him; Aesop‘s fable. 7y

This book has so many great mittens that I‘m already planning my next pair and I haven‘t yet finished the first one, reusing wool from an unsuccessful project that I unravelled. Technique called ‘magic loop‘ using one circular needle is not in this book, however; I learned that at the yarn store. #knittersofLitsy

wanderinglynn Wow! Those mittens look amazing! 👍🏻👏🏻😀 7y
rubyslippersreads 😍🦊😍 7y
Lindy @wanderinglynn Isn‘t it a cute design? The pair are different from each other and illustrate the fox and the grapes fable. 7y

Book mail! In my defense I bought it before I started curbing my buying. And a gift card was involved. And it is a knitting book so it hardly counts. #thatsmystory #bookmail
