WHY DO I LOVE THIS SO MUCH?! This is the weirdest, strangest, funniest, saddest, most thoughtful book I have read in a while. The art is perfection. The story, while in the realm of the fantastic, is ridiculously believable. I love this. Read it. Let the chaos in. Is this burning...an eternal...flaaammmmeee?
Was a strange and surreal book. Subtle yet beautiful artwork. Obviously as a beardy-weirdy myself I was drawn to this like a moth to a flame....or like soup to a beard...
It is no fun when your facial #tresses start living a life of their own that might involve taking over the island where you live. No fun at all..

This book is fantastic and you should read it. I didn't know what exactly I was getting into when I picked it up--it turned out to be a beautifully drawn and organized graphic novel full of layers and depth, appropriate for all ages, and very NightValean indeed, which was a wonderful surprise. 💜 #wtnv

P.S. This library book is quite dirty but it's NOT MY FAULT

Hey, friendos! I REALLY 😉 love this book! Hot DAMN it's so fantastic. I won't be able to use many frames for the #speechbubblechallenge both bc most sentences run for multiple frames AND bc no one should have this beautiful book spoiled for them, but I'm gonna go ahead and tag this frame with my #amazement at how great a simple little frame like this can be. #letsgetgraphicweeklongmarathon
Weird, silly. Interesting artwork. Until the beard showed up, that town was mighty boring!
My son, who loves his beard, loved this book about beards. Also, that's his author shot - he's a published poet! #hairthereandeverywhere #anditsaugust

The first book I thought of for today's prompt. Definitely not the first one to share this but I'm doing it anyways. 😂
#Hairthereandeverywhere - I have seen others posting about this graphic novel for today's prompt, but I had to go with it as well.
A man wakes up one day and finds hair on his chin, which normally is very smooth. No matter how much he shaves, the beard just keeps on growing. This GN tells a story about fitting in or being different, all done in black and white illustrations.

#AndItsAugust Day 4 - Hair There and Everywhere
Dave lives in a society where sameness, orderliness, and tidiness are the norm. Everyone dresses the same, wears their hair the same, but underneath it all is deep repression of individuality. Until one day, Dave's facial hair starts growing uncontrollably. Despite all attempts to trim it or contain it, the beard keeps growing and growing. This one man's unplanned protest has far-reaching effects.
A very wacky and corky read, but I enjoyed it. 📖
I went all in with the (mostly) #blackandwhitecovers. There's just something striking about a black cover with white font 😍
#MayBookFlowers
I enjoyed how this started out, it was a fun read, but felt that the ending was rather anti-climactic
Library hold just came in. Interested to see how this one goes. I just love the title 😊

Great birthday gift!
#FeistyFeb Day 22 - ALL THE FEELS
Maybe it's the spare words and simplistic illustration, the overt scenes of injustice, or the social allegory that extends throughout the text - but every time I read this graphic novel I have so many feels!
#catsofLitsy 😻😻😻
How have I not read this book until now?? So beautiful the art is exceptional. And the story was thoughtful and deeply personal. So amazing.
I loved this graphic novel #setonanisland. On the Island of Here everyone look the same and nobody sticks out. Until one day were Dave starts to grow a beard which won't stop growing. So much fun, and kinda creepy aswell.

No-Shave November has arrived! I'm planning on indulging on a few particular hairy readings. My picks for this month are:
The Gigantic Beard That Was Evil by Stephen Collins, and
The Bearded Lady by Sharlee Dieguez.
I didn't find any books that would directly help the No-Shave or Movember cause but willing to help spread awareness in any way I can.

Happy Halloween #Littens I hope its all treats and no tricks. Or maybe just a couple tricks 🎃👻👿
#Booktober Day 23 - Favorite graphic novel
Drawn in spare b&w, this is the story of a man who lives in "Here", a land where life is orderly and all people are the same, including all men being clean-shaven. When Dave's facial hair begins growing uncontrollably, the reactions by his community take strong and unexpected turns, illustrating the importance of conformity to social norms in Here. It's a beautifully touching allegory for nonconformity.
Art: fascinating. Story: supremely weird
I just used my dye-sinking-in time at the hairdresser's to finish up this gem of a graphic novel. Its simple, Burtonesque illustrations and unique story fit so well together. Kernels of wisdom like the one above are peppered throughout. It's a lot of fun and a quick read while still giving you so much to think about. Read it!
Finally, a moment to read! I had to bail on the Backman book I was reading for now because I haven't had time to read even a page in over a week. 😭 I'm starting up this graphic novel because it's fun and light and I am drowning in work and housework and literally all of the stress ever 😩
#SeptPhotoChallenge Day 28 - Maps in Books
Two of my favorite books have maps in them. The map in GIGANTIC BEARD is within the graphic novel itself, and the map from THE MONSTERS OF TEMPLETON is on the endpapers. Both are important to their respective stories. #somethingforsept #maps
After reading for about 4 hours last night, I was able to complete one book and jump into a new one. I read about 20 pages of The Gigantic Beard before I crashed for the night. Of course a dinner of pizza and beer was probably the wrong choice for food to help me stay energized for the #24in48 readathon 🍕🍺 I'm starting off my morning with a breakfast sandwich and coffee while I continue this graphic novel. 😄
Felt a little uneven in plotting, but once it got going was very funny and melancholy.
Friend loaned me this one for my son to read. I haven't read a graphic novel in a while. Should I read this before I pass it on?
This is how I feel during the summer reading program.
Home after 9pm again. Started cleaning house, but gave up on tidiness. This book fit my mood perfectly.
Hilarious and quirky, it seemed-to me at least-vaguely reminiscent of the weird style Vonnegut employed for all of his works.
