Interesting and informative. Lots of fascinating details. I read this slowly over the course of several months, one State at a time. Now I know that the shapes of the States are not nearly as random as they seem!

I was just relaxing with a cup of wine at a theater down the street, reading the tagged story “Return of the Jedi: From a Certain POV“ when out of nowhere people started pouring in to meet some random guy. There was someone there taking pictures, a line forming to meet this guy, I'm giving him the side eye...he's not Chris Stuckmann who is releasing Shelby Oaks this weekend , but I eventually left & had to scooby doo it & it appears to be (CONT)

Ruthiella You are a magnet for publicity! 😅 5d
vivastory @Ruthiella 😂 (albeit UNWANTED) Although I did see Brea Grant was at Screenland once a couple yrs ago. That would have been great. Reading Glasses is one of my fave book podcasts! 5d

Read-n-Bloom Yikes 😬 lol 🧸 I love bears but not when they‘re that close and we have bears close up in our hills. My husband came across one this past Spring when we had a bad wildfire around our house and he was up fighting it. I guess the fire ran him out of his den 😆 2mo
TheBookgeekFrau @Read-n-Bloom I don't mind them this close--on camera only! 😅 2mo

Geopolitics is my passion, therefore I really enjoyed this one. For people who are not familiar with conflicts and the world map - could be diffcult to follow. It still is a pick if you wanna understand the world‘s politics !!

This was okay. Reading about how state borders came into existence was way more boring than expected. These facts were so obscure they‘ll never even show up on Jeopardy. Worst of all, the book was organized in alphabetical order instead of by region, so there was a lot of repeat information. For example you learn about the border between North and South Dakota when you learn about all of North Dakota‘s border and then again when you get to SD.

The_Book_Ninja Does it tell you why Missouri took a little chunk out of Arkansas? I need to know! 3mo
TheAromaofBooks This was also a TV series at some point (can't remember what platform) and it was more engaging in that format - I also found this book to be rather flat. 3mo

I really enjoyed this book. It's well-written and engaging. It serves as a good biography of Mercator, covering his life as well as the influences (personal, religious, political, etc.) that went into his work. It also discusses alot of the different developments that occurred in cartography and map making during this period, as well as how the unknown parts of the world were dealt with. Definitely recommend.
