More of kiddo‘s book bazaar picks. She got two Boxcar Children, tagged, Quidditch Through the Ages, a Karen Hesse called The Music of Dolphins…and some others we‘d never heard of. Plus three she thought would be good for school!

I gave this a listen, I‘m pretty sure I read it as a kid but thought it sounded interesting since I‘m heading to NYC soon. It was sweet, I loved the animal characters and their friendship and the setting was fun too. Tony Shaloub‘s narration was lovely. The characterization of the humans made it a so-so, it was racially insensitive and kept mentioning Mama‘s weight. We get it, she is curvy! #BookspinBingo @TheAromaofBooks

Trying to find some NY books for Beatrix in anticipation of Christmas holidays. This old-fashioned tale was ok, albeit predictable and a bit sentimental. I was pleased the cricket escaped.
Anyone have any NYC recommendations? We have read, and quite enjoyed, a couple of the Vanderbeekers books.
I haven't read this one before but the look on that cat's face has got me bumping it up on the old TBR.😸 I believe this edition is from 1970.

After a month of chatting about new YA on my podcast, we‘re back to old school reads, starting with George Selden‘s The Cricket in Times Square. This Newbery Honor winner is a love story to New York City, friendship, and the arts. Bestselling author Melissa de la Cruz was lovely enough to join me for this episode and to share her personal experience with this classic. 🎼 Link to listen in bio!
On a quick break at work featuring a Strawberry acai refresher and trader joes granola bar. 😋 It's been so much fun teaching The Cricket in Times Square to 4th graders. I'm surprised by how much they're loving this story. 🤗💕
It's so hard to take a picture of a Kindle book. 🤣
My first assignment for the reading institute is to read this book and write a report on it! I'm surprised that this isn't one that was read to me as a child. It's such a cute, feel good little book. ❤
I thought this story of a Connecticut cricket finding a home in Times Square was okay. My kid, though, quite enjoyed it. I was disappointed by the ratio of male to female characters (only one woman out of at least ten characters). The writing and the story were fine, but it is not a book that will stick with me. #battleofthebooks
An unlikely trio - Tucker the Mouse, Harry the Cat, and Chester the Cricket - become friends and orchestrate an amazing way to bring fame to Chester and an ordinary newsstand in Times Square. This Newberry winner is so refreshing as you see friendships made that help others see they have purpose. I read this as part of a Newberry challenge for this year but I‘d love to read the rest of the stories in the series.
1. Teleport! So many places to go! And they would probably be infinitely more interesting than any minds I could read.
2. Currently reading this one with my son
3. No. They never stick.
4. Nothing on Netflix, but Dr. Who on Amazon and Handmaid‘s Tale on Hulu.
5. Of course! 👍

I love this bookmark my kiddo made as he reads through MY childhood copy of this book! His school district does a “Book Battles” competition and the fourth graders are super competitive this year! Kellen‘s goal is to read all 20 books on the Book Battle list! (This is Book 8 for him!)

We finished this book last night.😢I'd forgotten this book almost completely. There are so many lovely parts-that the Bellinis are Italian immigrants who love opera, that Chester was such a talented musician with an uncanny ability to learn a melody & reproduce it exactly. And that he ultimately chose to go home rather than continue to as a slave to his fame. His conviction and resolve are important, even though he had to leave his friends behind.
"I'm starting to feel Septemberish". I also hadn't realized what a good time of year it is to read this book. It's making me very melancholy though.
- until recently Germany, now Buckinghamshire, England. I'm American and I'm married to an Italian.
-Science Fiction and Fantasy (or Speculative Fiction)
-both eReader and paper books
-I will read anywhere I get a chance.
I read this as a child. 4th maybe 5th grade. I'm reading it to my son now and I remember nothing. I didn't remember that music played such a prominent role, at least in the 2nd half. But I'm loving it. I wonder if it swayed me in any way to become a musician? You'd think I'd remember it better if it had!🤔
I feel ya, Chester! My girls loved how the time of year in the book coincided perfectly with when we read it (the last Sunday in August was specifically mentioned). Lena (9) had a bit of a hard time getting into this bc she had a book hangover from The Penderwicks, but she ended up enjoying it. I found it a tad boring, to be honest. ⭐⭐⭐
Surprisingly, I never read this one as a kid. I'm listening to it now though, because #TonyShalhoub 😉😍
AAAHHH!!! I just came across some books that I had COMPLETELY forgotten about and brought back amazing childhood memories. I LOOOVVED this book!!!! Loved, loved, loved it!! Was this a childhood favorite of anyone else's? Please-please-please, I hope so 😆😁🙌🏻.
1. Nashville, TN
2. 11/22/63, Attachments and Dark Matter. I can't choose just one!
3. I put my TBR on a spreadsheet and pick things at random.
4. The Cricket in Times Square
5. Harry Potter!
6. I'm always behind the times with books, so by the time I'm reading something, it's been out a while. 😂

a childhood fave! 💛 I have several copies in my classroom library. #insects #junebookbugs
#popsugar reading challenge to read "a book with a cat on the cover" done right!
Cat in lap? Check! Cat on cover? Check! Is there a bonus if the cat in my lap was adopted from the same used bookstore where I got this book? I adopted her from Twice Sold Tales when she was a tiny kitten... five years later she still loves to snuggle up with a good book! Love my bookish kitty
What a delightful book! I read this to my daughter at bedtime and she just loved Chester, Tucker and Harry--the cutest trio of friends ever! My daughter plays the cello so we loved the musical elements in this book--Cute read!
#FunFridayPhoto , My favorite middle grade book ❤ Chester the cricket still holds a special place in my heart. @Liberty
