One of my favourite things about London is reading a Poirot story from the 1920s and seeing a reference to a pub I went to the other week! Wonder if agatha christie ever sat at the same table as me.

I love this enormous volume of poirot short stories SO much, perfect cosy october reading

I‘ve been watching Poirot the miniseries as an RX for peace of mind, and I‘m obsessed. A few months ago it was Miss Marple (80s series). Although I own all the short stories on Kindle, I went to the bookstore today for a physical copy. Should make for perfect bedtime reading—all 867 pages of it!
#bookhaul

Ruthiella I love the David Suchet Poirot adaptations and the Miss Marples with Joan Hickson. Reading Christie is total comfort reading for me. 3y

Me later today when the lack of sleep catches up with me...

I‘ve really gotten into sending postcards lately - I found that the best way to convince myself that it was ok to go outside was to have a task to complete - ie. walk to the post box

Bookwormjillk We just got back from a walk to the mail box! 5y
LeeRHarry Sounds like my day today 😏 5y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @LeeRHarry, I almost missed my movie date (we hang out on messenger and watch the same movie) with some friends because I fell asleep 😂 I‘m rostered for another early start tomorrow so don‘t have high hopes for the little grey cells tomorrow either! 5y

Hercule Poirot, the most famous detective in the world! Give him any case or mystery to solve, he will thwart it by the characteristic application of his 'little grey cells'. Both, Poirot and Hastings are by far the most successful duo! My love for mystery urged me to buy this book and I must admit that I thoroughly enjoyed the short stories. Murders, kidnappings, thefts all solved! Agatha Christie can never go wrong! #mystery

Jen, what a lovely beginning to fall! 🍂🍁Thank you so much for your truly thoughtful gifts! English murders and Bryson? Perfect!! My first bookish pillow and your pretty bookmarks! Love your art! ❤️ And your calligraphy on the card is frame-worthy! 😍 Cozy scarf and socks in colors perfect for me! I will definitely be putting my fall mug to use immediately! The chocolates look yummy, I'm currently wearing the salted caramel lip balm 😄, and ...

mabell I can't wait to try the butternut soap - it smells terrific! The dainty coaster (tatted? crocheted?) is so pretty! Did you make it? Oooooo and the maple lights! I've never seen anything like them! What a cool find! It is cloudy here today, and they put out such a cozy glow, I love it! Thank you so much again for everything! And thank you @Avanders for hosting the #fallingforfallswap! Happy Fall! 🍂🍁🍂 6y

I‘m quite excited that one of my favourite detectives has made his way back to the big screen but also kind of terrified that it‘s Kenneth Branagh doing it... idk - has anyone watched it?

rabbitprincess I have a friend watching it tomorrow, although she says it will likely be more like hate-watching 😂 7y
Suelizbeth Oh, I need him! Where did you get him! 7y
jpmcwisemorgan The mustache is unacceptable. I‘m still annoyed about it. The movie wasn‘t bad overall. A friend said she thought Branagh was too physically active to be Poirot but that wasn‘t too bad. The mustache... 7y
See All 18 Comments
melissanorr I saw it and didn't love it. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @melissanorr, that is my fear! Was it the cast or the storyline that let you down? 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @jpmcwisemorgan, I could tell it was wrong from the trailer 😅 how is his accent? 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @rabbitprincess, I feel that! Miss Marple ended up becoming a hate watch for me (only when she was in stories that were not hers) 7y
rabbitprincess @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I had to stop reading the books before watching the show, because I kept yelling at the TV about what they'd changed. (Murder is Easy, I'm looking at you...🙄) 7y
jpmcwisemorgan I think the accent was ok but the mustache had me so distracted I don‘t really know. 7y
Suelizbeth @thegirlwiththelibrarybag OMG! That‘s a dangerous Etsy shop. I may have bought a few things. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @Suelizbeth 😈 glad to be of assistance! I also bought more than one thing when I visited! 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @jpmcwisemorgan, eek! I‘ll try and focus on the accent before I dissolve into moustache rage (it‘ll happen) 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @rabbitprincess, I can‘t remember which ones I found offensive- but there was one with Tommy, Tuppence and Miss Marple that caused me much rage! 7y
melissanorr @thegirlwiththelibrarybag I felt there were too many changes to the story and the acting was fairly atrocious. It was clearly a vanity project for most of the cast and they were too over the top for me. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @melissanorr, fair enough... hopefully if I lower my expectations I‘ll find it ok?! 7y
melissanorr @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Some of the people I went with enjoyed it so I think it just depends on what you are hoping for. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @melissanorr, absolutely! I've read a lot of her books and watched a fair chunk of the David Suchet stuff so it was always going to be a gamble! I'll report back when I've seen it! 7y

Cathythoughts We just read Evil Under The Sun for our Bookclub. And planning a trip to the cinema for Murder On The Orient Express. I believe Ragnar Jonasson is very inspired by Agatha ( makes perfect sense) trapped by snow ❄️❄️❄️ 8y
thebookdiviner I've only read a couple of Christie's books (and loved them) but I absolutely adore the Poirot movies 8y
Jess_Read_This @erzascarletbookgasm Thank you! Can you believe the bottom box was given to me by a coworker from her mother's book collection? And the top box I found still sealed at a thrift store for $.40?!!! (edited) 8y
Jess_Read_This @Cathythoughts How neat! Your bookclub sounds like a great one to be a part of! Jonasson is definitely inspired by Agatha Christie- I see similar elements in plot craftsmanship. He translates her books into Icelandic. I read an interview where he said it can be a struggle at time to translate because some words in her books do not have an Icelandic equivalent. So interesting! 8y
Jess_Read_This @thebookdiviner I'm still a relative Agatha Christie newbie and haven't read nearly all her stuff. I love the movies though too and the Masterpiece Miss Marples! 8y

Ich habe mich nun doch entschlossen, die komplette Fischer-Ausgabe wegzugeben. Die vielen Fehler machten die Bücher trotz ihrer inhaltlichen Stärke nicht mehr lesenswert. 😑

So I decided to give away all my books published by Fischer. So many mistakes within these books made me really dislike the books even though the plots were so delightful. 😑

Bambolina_81 That quotation is hilarious 😂 8y
