Peril at End House (Poirot) | Agatha Christie
post image
Pickpick

Hastings & Poirot are on holiday in Cornwall (does Hastings ever return to his ranch?) when they make the acquaintance of Nick Buckley, a young woman who lives in End House on the hillside. Nick has had quite a lot of near misses recently & whilst talking to Poirot is shot at, leaving a bullet hole in her hat. Poirot decides that he will find the person trying to kill Miss Buckley, but can he prevent a murder still to occur? (continued)

OutsmartYourShelf This is the first Agatha Christie book I ever read. I was about 11, bored whilst staying at a relative's house one summer & asked if I could read one of their books. This was the one I picked up of the shelf first & I remembered some of it but not all. It definitely stands up to a second reading as an adult, again the clues are all there in plain sight but hidden so cleverly you can pass them by without noticing. 4.25🌟 2d
Librarybelle That‘s so cool this was your first ever Christie when you were younger and that it stood up to the second read! 2d

This is a short story collection of Agatha Christie - all Hercule Poirot ones. I especially liked the one of Davenheim because I did have such an unexpected twist at the end and I really like the TV version with David Suchet.

Well, I liked this one quite a bit! I find it amusing how Poirot has started acting a little like Miss Marple in this one ("Now, what does that remind me of?"). The political intrigue subplot felt unnecessary and a little like Red Scare Era propaganda, but otherwise, this mystery was delightful to read. #doublespin

The I cannot resist a weird vintage Christie cover. These two are from the 1970s. I picked them up at a used bookstore yesterday.
I like the tagged one (the next #christiescapers buddy read) but the bright red lips on the Taken at the Flood is a little off putting.

Librarybelle Yes it is! 1w
thegirlwiththelibrarybag Would love to read the design brief for this era of covers 🤭 (that said, I‘d take a weird cover over a bland one) 1w

Finished in February. Behind already on the Agatha Christie reread. I tried to go into this one thinking good thoughts about Hastings but I just can‘t stand him. He thinks he‘s so clever and he‘s really not.

Librarybelle I have a love/hate relationship with Hastings, I think. 1w

I‘ve decided to join the #christiescapers buddy read. The only Agatha Christie book I‘ve read is Murder On The Orient Express and I liked it. I‘ve been wanting to read more of her books. I have some of her books on my Audible app and this will give me a good excuse to read them sooner rather than later. They also seem like short audiobooks. I‘m only 2 months behind on the buddy read because I just joined but I have time to catch up.

Librarybelle You definitely do! Glad you joined! 2w

dabbe I'm almost done with THE SECOND ADVERSARY! I have no idea how I let myself get behind! 🤩 2w
kelli7990 I would like to join. 2w
Librarybelle @dabbe No worries! I‘m still way behind on Shardlake—not as fast of a read as Christie, but still very enjoyable. I‘m so glad I‘m reading them! 2w

I didn't like this at all.

Ruthiella This is, in my opinion, one of her worst books. Apparently it started as short stories and got smushed together in to a novel. 2w
RedCurly @Ruthiella Yes, I read about that and as I know she wasn't well when she wrote this, so I cannot blame her 2w
