When the nightmare in your closet tears his head, comfort him and put him to bed! A great story for any kid (or adult) that is afraid of the dark. ❤️ #scarathlonphotochallenge #nightmare #blackcatcrew

I still love this book. It teaches some valuable lessons: “Appearances can be deceiving”, “Kindness counts”, & “EVERYONE experiences fear & has moments of weakness (no matter how tough they may seem).” It‘s a shame that the story focuses on guns & “shooting things” so much, as this may be a deterrent to today‘s parents. As for me, I‘ll always be won over by a narrative that features a monster who‘s actually a big softie. #ThrowbackReadathon

(He‘s very kind in subsequent pages. I promise. 😉)
Actually, I kind of feel like this should be #requiredreading for law enforcement.
#ThrowbackReadathon
Can we talk about how the real “nightmare* in this book is the red-eyed, demon-possessed rocking horse in the corner? 😂 Those eyes only *look* dead & vacant. He‘s obviously plotting a dark & unspeakable-something.

OMG I‘m geeking out about this dedication in “There‘s a Nightmare in my Closet”! I swear, these childhood faves GET. IN. YOUR. HEAD! I didn‘t remember one lick of this, but I assume the dedication is to the author‘s daughter. My fur-daughter has an “M” name (“Moxie”), she‘s a RABBIT, and we often call her “Moxie-Cotton” (like “OxyContin” 😜). These hints, suggestions, & minor details are buried *deep*!

Kicking-off the #ThrowbackReadathon with some eerie, dreary morning light & “There‘s a Nightmare in My Closet” by Mercer Mayer. I don‘t *think* there‘s a nightmare in my closet (as far as I know), but there is a jackalope (hat hanging on the door 😉🐰). This was one of my absolute favorite picture books as a kid!
Another little mini-stack came in for me today for the #ThrowbackReadathon! No surprises here: Roald Dahl, Archie comics, Choose Your Own Adventure, & a couple of my most beloved picture books.
Join us Jan 25th - 28th as we revisit our favorite childhood stories! Create your own stack & get pumped!
Did anyone else love these? #KidLitNostalgia
