From my closest book swap a while back.
Just walked home from the last evening of the Newcastle Writer‘s Festival. Oh how I ❤️ a writer‘s festival. My brain is full of new ideas. I didn‘t buy any books! Hard to pick a favourite but Helen Garner was very entertaining. Clementine Ford is nothing like the media portrays her. If I do buy a book as a result of this festival it will be Inga Simpson‘s The Last Woman in the World. She read a passage from it and I need to know what happens next.
#WeeklyForecast
Most of my picks for the week are nonfiction, hoping to finish strong for #NFNov.
I bailed on Scrappy Little Nobody earlier this fall with the plan to go back to it when I was in the right mood. I am now!
#BFC wk 2 I finished my first book but I didn‘t go to pilates as I was away at a Professional Development course in reading and working memory which was fantastic. Afterwards I went to the op shop not far from the school & got all of these goodies for under $20. This wk I went over my minimum of yoga and stretching sessions, I kept my wine drinking in check & went for my walk so I‘m definitely on the up. I commented on 10 individual posts. 42 +10=
Something fabulous to listen to waiting to set up for an afternoon celebrating the 3 years of my grandson‘s life.
Oh look, he‘s reading it!
My husband bought this for me a couple of years ago when it first came out. I absolutely loved it & quoted it endlessly to him at the time 😂.
And now he‘s finally reading it himself. Yaaayyy! 👊👊❤️😍
I‘ve been so ill with a stomach bug since Thursday night, so I haven‘t been able to read much. I‘d hoped to complete this by the weekend too. Hope to feel well enough to press on further tomorrow.
A really engaging book that weaves together Ford‘s personal experiences and wider issues with Australian society. I really liked the chapters on rape culture and the language that goes into silencing women. She also presents a meaningful analysis of why women hesitate to identify as feminist.
“Be whatever you like but do not be this.”⬅️ SPOT ON!
Another fantastic book from feminist Clementine Ford.
Quote: ‘Why is the measure of a mans worth meant to be the size of his integrity while the measure of a woman‘s is the size of her waist?‘
Yep, so much to be angry and sad about!
My Audible library is full of books which give important lessons in life aka #SchoolinLife 📖
#NoFemmeber
I really wanted to love this book as I really admire the author. She has faced some of the most horrendous online trolling I‘ve ever seen. Her responses are priceless. This book makes some incredibly important points. However, I just didn‘t really like the way it was written. It was a bit repetitive and just didn‘t grab me. Saying that 2 chapters really stood out. ‘The good guys‘ and ‘When will you learn‘ are spot on and really worth reading
I am angry. You should be too. If you aren‘t, you haven‘t been paying enough attention and should probably ready this. Backed this up by watching Hannah Gadsby‘s Nanette. Pow!
#FierceFeb #RebelGirl
I was going to get my daughter to put on her Melbourne Rebels hat and scarf to be a Rebel Girl but Clementine Ford is a better choice. I admire her outspokenness and her resilience in standing up to the vile attacks to which she has been subjected.
#bookanddrink #UncannyOctober
Fortuitous that this pic popped up in my FB memories from one year ago today.
My husband came home from work on a Friday night with a copy of Fight Like A Girl (I‘d ordered it and was waiting with baited breath). He then mixed me an Aperol Spritz and I got to work.
📖🍹🤓👊👏
#welcometothewarroom
Probably shouldn't have started this before bed - it's already too hard to put down.
A quick sweep of my shelves would suggest I have quite the thing for #difficultwomen.
👊👊😘❤️
#FallIntoBooks
Clementine Ford fights back against the patriarchy, abuse and rape culture (among others) pulling no punches in her assessment of women's experiences in Australia. There's a lot that resonated strongly with me, there were some frightening realisations of just how insidious this stuff is and there's an awful lot to be angry about. This was a powerful read.
My kids have a student free day and wanted to go out for lunch. They've abandoned me for playroom so I've got a rare moment sitting with a wine and my book. Nice break from studying!
There is much to contemplate in this one.

💪👊😍
Clementine Ford is considered to be an "outspoken" feminist by a lot of Aussies, and when my local indie bookstore tweeted in support of her new book about toxic masculinity, they found themselves at the centre of a targeted campaign by a "men's rights" group. The group posted 247 negative reviews of the store, but the store's supporters came out in their droves posting an additional 2500 ish positive reviews.

Great quote about consent, one I might use in sexual health education.
"There's no shortage of irony in the fact that women are held responsible for whatever we allow into our bodies but denied any say over what we take out of them."
Re-reading bits of this for a book club discussion on Monday. Chapter Seven: The Belle Jar. 😍 😥💪Bloody brilliant.
I just finished the last book I will read in March, so it made it into my #MarchReadingStats 📚 I think this might be the most non-fiction books I have ever read in a month, which is kinda weird to think about.
#bookstats
My feeling after finishing this: yaaaaaasssss....
It was so good! Ford has this dry sense of humour and I loved hearing her narrate the book, because she put so much emotion into it. It made me angry, sad, smile and rage.
I am beginning to get a sense of what kind of non-fiction books I like, and feminist memoir kind of books are right i my wheel house!
#MarchMadness
Two #awesomeaudiobooks on my #tbr. I am considering using Fight Like a Girl as a substitute for Born a Crime in the #MarchMadness reading challenge. Is that okay @JenP - both books are about oppression in some way 👍
#MarchintoReading
I devoured this book. It made me laugh, cry and get really angry but I feel so empowered now that I've finished it. Watch out all, loud feminist coming through! #feminism #clementineford #readwomen
I have an audible credit and as a new audiobook listener I need help to choose my next read. These books are on my wish list, and now I am hoping for some recommendations from all of you sweet Littens. Have you read/listened to any of these? Which should I choose?
I was pre-disposed to liking this book. I've followed Clem and her writings since she was a columnist in Adelaide, and it is only infrequently that I don't wholeheartedly agree with her. Bonus: this made me remember many cringe-worthy things I said and did as a teen, in the hope of being accepted by society. We've all been there; it wasn't pretty.
This is the book How To Be A Woman wishes it was.
Saw Clementine speak at the Perth Writer's Festival this morning. She signed my book. 😍 Feeling starstruck 😍. She was eloquent and awesome. Also on the panel was academic William Maley and I bought his book What Is A Refugee? to add to my TBR.
#feistyfeb #bestdebutsof2016 Loved this book. Love Clementine Ford. Can't wait to see her here at the Perth Writer's Festival in a couple of weeks.
Half way through !!! Absolutely love it !!
My husband bought this home for me on a Friday night. Then he mixed me an Aperol Spritz. 👏😘🤓. I consumed them in record time and found them both to be immensely satisfying. This book educated me, made me mad and sad, and is such an important read for every woman, and every man if you can convince them to read it. Go Clem! 👊
A fantastic read on feminism, whether you're new to the subject or well versed. Some triggery content, so be ware, but the triggery parts are laced with insight.
Spent the day at a music festival in the blazing sun. No reading was done, however... Shirley Manson herself gave a shoutout to Clementine Ford's book 😳
I now have to read this book because SHIRLEY MANSON TOLD ME TO.
