This is my bookclub‘s #chunkster for the year. Due for discussion at our weekend away by the beach in November. Have just started. Gonna take me a while with 36 hours of audio!

Current audiobook and loving it. There is nothing quite like listening to a memoir read by the person whose story it is. Brilliant. Also not a book I would have picked up had it not been for the bookclub at my work. Gotta love the power of bookclub.
pickReally very good. Loved the landscape, and the story was very clever. A touch disappointed in the ending, but only a touch.

pickFinished this off this morning, ready for book club tomorrow. How can a story be about not much and everything at the same time? I found the style of writing very calming, almost meditative and I really liked the gentle progression of each of the stories. I think some of the imagery in this one will stay with me for a while.
Up next.... have had this in my audible account for a while. Looking forward to it!
pickI did this on audio in the car, which was great for all the voices, but during the first half I did wish I was reading a book so I could go back and pick up on little things I missed. I got royally confused a couple of times and I‘m sure I missed key details. However, it was a great story, and I got most of it in the end. Some fabulous fabulous sentences too.
pickExcellent. Worth your time. You will always have problems, so have good ones. That depends on your personal metrics and how you view the world. Action results in motivation, not the other way round. Get over yourself, and start choosing which few things you will truly give a fuck about. Let the rest go. Add this to your pile of happiness reading @Joanne1 ! Really!
Negative emotions are part of the human condition. It‘s silly to think we can avoid them or that if we have them something is wrong with us.
pickPick pick pick pick. Not so harrowing as to be unbearable (which is always my fear with Books like this), really well written, totally compelling.
Current read. Couple of chapters in and appreciating the frankness.

pickA really good listen. Well researched and Summerscale evokes a vivid Victorian setting. Tho there were some parts that, although interesting, did seem to not be relevant for eh story and dragged it out a bit. Would read another of hers tho.
Started The Wicked Boy audiobook in the bus on the way back to Nanjing from Yangzhou. This pic is taken at the Bamboo garden we visited today.
A book I definitely have to read. I‘m currently in Nanjing and took my students to visit the massacre memorial museum the week before last. It‘s harrowing, with it‘s partly excavates grave of 10,000 bodies, and I am moved every time I go there. It‘s also an excellent example of a museum experience.

so-soMany parts felt very repetitive, which made it difficult to get interested in. I was interested enough to see how it all came together, so I made it to the end, but was relieved to be done.
Tonight‘s reading digs. Dorm room at a school in Nanjing, China. I‘ve got my own little night light and the heater on to dry my washing :)
Next audiobook. Will sneak snippets while hiding away from the numerous teenagers we brought here to China 🇨🇳 on a school trip. 12 days to go! :-)
so-soIt was ok. I got a bit annoyed at the smatterings of partial sentences, and I found the changing perspectives a bit annoying. But it was interesting and full of lots of unlikeable people which usually make for an intriguing read.
Just started this. Anyone read it? Tell you what I‘m enjoying at the moment - Kindle‘s WhisperSync. I‘ve read my last couple of books with it. Sometimes reading, sometimes listening, sometimes following along in the text while being read to. And all on my phone. It‘s pretty cool.
pickI‘m in China at the moment (on a school trip) and Litsy hasn‘t been working, but it is now so I‘m catching up! Anyway, really enjoyed this book and will definitely read the next two. Love love love the rugged Scottish Island scenery which is why I love the series Shetland as well. This book was recommended to me because I was raving about wanting to visit the Shetlands after not being able to get enough of seeing it in that series.

pickI found this a really good read. It wasn‘t quite what I was expecting, with some essays that didn‘t seem to be on topic, but they were interesting (I loved the competitive scrabble one!) and I love Gay‘s writing style.
so-soI just didn‘t get it. I liked the parts with the historical references, and the characters in the bardo were interesting, but I wasn‘t sure how it all fitted together. I‘m not sure how much i cared either. I‘m looking forward to discussing this one with both of my book groups.
Am heading o/s in a few days so going to try to whip through this one before I go, in amongst all the other things that need doing :) Am using my new bookmark, sent by my Litsy penpal @kidamy which I think suits the magic theme of this book perfectly.
