Today was book club day! Always a good time with these friends. Water Moon was our January book and Good Spirits was our December read so we got to talk a bit about both for those who couldn‘t meet last month.

I admit I didn‘t love Water Moon, but I did love the premise of a pawn shop where you can pawn your regrets. I was hoping we would get to see their clientele and the types of regrets they pawned but it went in a whole other direction.

I wasn‘t able to keep up with the #12BooksOf2025 😅so here‘s a smattering of some favorite reads. I completed 104/100 for 2025.

I picked this one up thinking aww a cute YA romance with rollerskating, but it‘s much more than that. This a book about the impact a rink has on creating community for a Black Indianapolis neighborhood being impacted by gentrification.

Pink highlights are my hopefuls for January that appealed to me most. 13 was the only book from the list I‘ve read.

I was just talking to a friend of mine about how more sprayed edge editions of books are coming out and he showed me the sprayed edition of 1. 😍 I was like maybe I should read that whole series just to get to 1. 🤔 I might be the only person left on Earth who hasn‘t read the Hunger Games series 😅

I know I‘m late to the Frieda McFadden hype train, but our book club got invited to an early screening of The Housemaid on Wednesday so I read that book so fast 😅. I was excited to see this was directed by Paul Feig. It stayed very close to the book and it was a lot funnier (dark humor lol) than I expected too. Gonna need to continue this series for sure. #KissAndTell

Finally putting up my December #BookSpin / #ReadYourKindle lists and my #BookSpinBingo board. I was struggling to locate seasonal stickers, but I‘m sure I will find some as soon as I post this. 😅 I carried over my unused free spaces for the year. Going to try for a blackout board but I‘ve never done that before 😂

Pretty pissed that I waited 9 years to read this, but I can't help but believe this is the timeline I was meant to read it in. 🥲 What a ride. This book will be haunting me at least till the end of this year I think.

Finally got to check out Book Nerd a new indie bookstore that just opened a few weeks ago. There‘s a silent book club that had a meeting yesterday. I love the concept of getting together and reading your own books with local folks and maybe meet some new people. Will definitely attend another meeting.

Loved Holy Runaways. Recommended for those who have left broader evangelicalism. Or if you know someone who has left and would like to gain some perspective. Very relatable even if you are not interested in pursuing a less horrible community of faith.

I thought this was for sure going to be a 5 star read for me. I was invested. I related so much to Sloane, too. I felt that there was so much left unsaid by the end of the book. I also think there are times when leaving an ending ambiguous adds value, but sometimes I would really rather an author just make a choice.

I know why the ending is ambiguous but I want answers dammit 😂 Would have liked more details about the rules of the sorority and the actual cannibalism. But I get that it‘s supposed to be a satire on feminism and not straight up horror. Etc, etc.

Cujo was the last book read in October and here is my October wrap up overall. Cujo definitely unlocked a new fear in me especially with rabies cases on the rise in my county and so many who don‘t follow leash laws. I definitely could have made bingo this month but it was nice to be busy with fun things like a concert and Halloween and meeting new people. Not no but hell no. Yikes on bikes. I would have DNFd at about 50% but this was a book club book and I wanted to be able to discuss all the awful 😂 Luckily everyone pretty unanimously hated this one. The premise had potential but this was terrible. It‘s been marketed as dark gothic romance but this is not romance nor did it really feel like horror. It was like a mish mash of tropes and hoping for the best. 😬 #HauntedShelf #GrimReaders ⬇️

Some of you might remember I posted about a local bookclub that was just getting started in SA.. well this was our first book. Post Stolen from IG from one of the other ladies in our book club who makes book themed cocktails. I loved this story that is set in the world of the Ruinous Love trilogy. If you read Butcher and Blackbird, the FMC in this book was a minor character. This book is the start of a trilogy all focused on the same couple. ⬇️

So cute. Zeb is nervous about befriending a brain he names Brian because brains are food not pets. This one reminded me of a Brian I used to work with whose name was mistyped as Brain on the schedule once.
