A pleasant reading experience, for the most part. Relationships, as much as food, form the core of the journal entries: love and pride and worry for parents and children, grief for first wife, complex feelings for second wife, joy in many good friends, it's obvious Tucci relishes making connections and sharing good food. 1/?
I enjoyed how happy he was to see his friends, to meet new people (for the most part), to talk up their talents. Maybe it's a given to write well of others when the public would be reading the results, but it feels genuine, as do the couple of anonymized instances where he makes it clear when he deems the behaviour of others worth his displeasure. 2w
It's a cliche to marvel at the down to earth nature of a person deemed a celebrity, so I'd like to offer the opposite. It's clear Tucci is wandering into some fairly rarified circles, and while I will grant him skill in writing sensually about food and somewhat poetically and profoundly about aging, life and loved ones, I think the most impressive accomplishment is relating the day to day 2w
