Escaping to the beach this weekend and I'm taking this book (and the hat) along with me! Have you read this one? Did you like it?
Weekend plans: edit some YouTube videos, go for a run, go for a long bike ride, snuggle the puppy, finish this book!
Current read... 50 pages in and I'm a little confused but trusting Le Guin to take me on this journey.
A Little Free Library jackpot find! I did not take these home but I sure hope someone else found them and had a very good day.

Charlie Waffles & I have exciting news! My new book is out this week! Surprise! I'm still waiting for the book info & cover to update in Litsy. So here's a brief description for you instead: small town secrets, Pacific Northwest vibes, a female detective trying to uncover the truth about her sister's killer, a mother trying to protect her daughter, a grandmother losing hold of reality. You can find out more on my website www.valeriegeary.com
Finished the cozy mystery last night and now I'm moving on to something a little more literary. I don't read a lot of books in translation though I generally like them when I do. What is the last book you read in translation?
I keep forgetting what day it is. Maybe because I'm reading the time travel book?
Getting some sun and starting a new book! Don't be fooled by the pink and candy hearts...this is a dark thriller. A deer dies in the first few chapters so... 🤷🏼♀️
My current Last, Now, Next stack!
Last: The City We Became
Now: Sweethearts
Next: Two Girls Down
Although technically...I still have 100 pages left in my last before I can start my next... 🤓
Finishing this one up tonight. It kept me on my toes! Should I keep reading the series? Are the rest as exciting and multilayered?
Reading this one in my in-person book club. I'm not very far yet and already I'm confused but pretty happy that confusion. 🤔😂🤓
I don't know where the last month went. The last time I posted we were having a snowstorm with a power outage. Today I sat out on the porch in the sun. It was a lovely 60 degrees. The daffodils are blooming. Spring is just around the corner. I'll do my best to check in more often...geeze! How's everyone doing? ❤️🌼
We're experiencing a power outage after an ice storm.... Going on about 14 hours now. Piled up under blankets with hot water bottles and a cozy dog. Seems like a good time to start a book about the Donner Party, right?
It snowed like 6 inches in Portland this weekend. Charlie is not thrilled. I, on the other hand, have the perfect excuse to snuggle up on the couch and read. Ha! Like I really need an excuse?
Started this one last night. On page 150 this morning. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Sunday plans. Go sports.
Currently reading. I think this works for a #booked2021 prompt! Hurrah! As always I'm behind with the challenge prompts. 🤦🏼♀️
February plans!
For the past month or so I've been starting every Saturday with one hour of reading. Before the chores, before tackling my to-do list. One hour of disappearing into a good book. It is fast becoming my favorite way to kick off the weekend.
We're home! Vet visit went fine. I mean, Charlie thought he was going to die... He hates the vet... But she did not seem too worried so that's good news. He's on a special diet of rice and chicken for a while. Which he seems to be quite enjoying. Now we'll just keep doing that and hope it fixes the problem. We're back at our favorite Friday night joint.... The couch.
*Someone* has an upset tummy. I took this before Charlie went in to see the vet. Now distracting myself with a book while I wait to hear about what might be going on. Think happy thoughts. 🐶❤️
Cleaned the house, ate some lunch. It's sunny outside so we're going to go on a nice long bike ride but first sneaking in some more reading. I'm nervous about what's building between Rue, a conjure woman, and the new preacher in town.
#joyousjanuary
I read about 50 pages last night before I feel asleep. The writing is beautiful and I'm hooked on the characters but there are going to be some tough emotional spots to get through I think. Tucking in for an hour this morning before I go do some chores. #joyousjanuary
Happy Weekend! I'm a little behind on my goals for #joyousjanuary readathon but still feeling hopeful. I have a stack of 5 library books I want to finish this week. I've finished 3 so far but they were the short ones. 😂 I've been very busy with work so I've been having a little bit of a hard time finding large chunks of time to read. Starting this one, which is the 4th book in the stack, tonight and hopefully will make some good progress!
If you're interested in seeing how I set up my reading journal for the year... There's now a YouTube video for that: https://youtu.be/SJU01qtTp0A
Started this one this morning during breakfast. I might be able to finish it tonight after dinner. 45 pages in and my heart has already shattered twice.
Sunday view. Halfway through this one. Hoping to finish it tonight to stay on track for my #joyousjanuary readathon goals. The story is hitting me pretty hard right now though in a way I didn't expect it to.
Okay I'm diving in to #joyousjanuary readathon and feeling ambitious! My goal is to finish these 5 library books that are due back soon! I read one this morning which means I only have 4 to go. 🙌🏻 Bonus goal: read at least 1 book to fit a #booked2021 prompt! Let's read! 📚
@Andrew65
What's the last thing you read in one sitting? Okay. Technically I read this post-earthquake/apocalypse-ish graphic novel in 2 sittings but only because I had to get up and make myself a cup of tea. ☕
Rolling into the weekend.
Waiting at the library to pick up our books. Boy, do we miss browsing but I'm very grateful for the no contact pick up and the hard work our librarians do to get us the books we need during these challenging times. ❤️❤️❤️
Sunday morning view
Weekend read. The way he writes about Hawaii is breathtaking. The hint of magic and sibling drama pushes it into early lead for favorite book of the month. (I know we're only a week inside January but it feels like longer... 😅)
This is my year. This is my year. This is my year. I've signed up for Booked every year since it kicked off and every year I fall short. I still have fun though! 😄 Which is what counts. But this year. This is my year.

Well, it is 2pm where we live on the last day of the year and I have not read 100 books. Let's be honest. I did not think I actually would. It was a lot of books to read at the last minute. I did read 90 books which is more than last year and I'm pretty satisfied with that! I think I'll spend some time today trying to finish up the tagged book so I can start the new year with a new book! 🥂

Happy Christmas from Charlie Waffles and me! We hope your day is going better than this snowman's!
Charlie Waffles is loving our staycation. I mean, I'm definitely not complaining.
First day of our Christmas break and we are taking full advantage!
This week was a busy one for me. I got a lot of writing work done but not a lot of reading. I'm taking the next 2 weeks off though! Still feeling hopeful about reading 100 books this year. Hahaha! I'm at 87.... I should finish this one today which will make 88. 🤔🤞🏻📚
#valeriereads100
Making some Christmas fudge and listening to a happily depressed woman figure out how she's going to make it through this year's Christmas hell. An utter delight.
#valeriereads100
87/100
Coffee + a good mystery + rainy day = all the reading.
Just finished this one so I'm at 87/100! I'm making excellent progress this weekend as I try to read 100 books by the end of the year. I'm sure I'll be much slower during the week but I'm feeling hopeful 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻
I loved this detective so much I'm diving into book 2 right now!
#valeriereads100
I wish I had a real fireplace but this is better than nothing. Less clean up too. I'm hoping to finish this one today. It's a new to me mystery series set in Colorado. This first book involves two missing boys, a dead clown, a pregnant detective and plenty of secrets to keep me guessing! I'm loving it!
#valeriereads100
86/100
Went for a long walk in the short sun & now we're back where we started the day w/a different book & a cuppa. I'm trying to see if I can read 100 books by the end of the year. As of today I'm at 86/100. I'm feeling oddly confident about it even though I'm pretty sure I'm not going to hit that number. Some of you have suggested graphic novels but I don't read a lot of those so... I'm going to do my best w/full length! Here we go! #valeriereads100
