Roughly an hour into the #24in48 readathon.... I'm thinking it'll be more like 12 in 48 for me. So far so good with this book, not exactly mind blowing stuff but an interesting critique of Progressivism and early twentieth century cultural imperialism.
This is my stack for #24in48 I'm trying to get through some reading that I've been putting off but I doubt I'll make the 24 hour mark.

David Sedaris is one of my favourite writers and I really wanted to add this one to my collection. Thanks so much for the great choices and all the extras - I'm loving the bookmarks and I'll be making use of the bag next time I head out to the library.

Just read this super quick read and parts of it were incredibly beautiful and truly moving. The crow functions as one of the #tbirds - a trickster figure who reveals shadowy half-truths to the grieving father and his two sons.

These two Grace Paley books arrived today and I have to admit the #sobaditsgood covers were the main reason I decided to finally purchase them!

Not a big fan of genre boxes! I guess I read alot of post-modern and post post-modern literature.... and that doesn't sound at all pretentious!
Reading, yoga, and pug wrangling.
Dark chocolate, almonds, anything salted caramel flavoured, and fruit.
Water, peppermint tea, and if I'm being less than saintly, cherry cream soda or rose lemonade.

I haven't been very active lately, reading has taken a bit of a back seat. Instead I've been stubbornly battling onwards with a diy fitted kitchen and living room revamp. As a result all of my books are piled up in the upstairs of our house.... I'm sure this isn't really a fire hazard! On the plus side my upper arms have been getting a great work out from all the heavy lifting 🙄

Wainwright describes 49 lakeland passes in this guide to the ancient #higherground routes once used by valley communities. Beautiful photos accompany the text and the combination makes for an evocative read. I can't find this book on litsy but the tagged one is a similar beast.

The Boroughs in Northhampton provides the backdrop for the epic Jerusalem. This Oikos is an #englishhouse which remains true to Moore's heritage and literary style. Could do with being hacked away at to make a more succinct, sharply formed novel but in spite of these flaws it's an unforgettable read - for all the right reasons!

When it comes to this novel I can never make up my mind, the characters are a dizzying whirl of contradictions. The fragile line drawn between love and hate throughout the text becomes part of my response as a reader. No one gets off lightly under Jelinek's shrewd gaze.

Through the use of an experimental, collage form Jean Toomer succeeds in creating a realistic representation of a fractured nation. The narrative ruptures are not repaired but the #sunshine at the end of Cane suggests the possibility of a rebirth for a divided U.S and spectral South.
An excellent read that I can best sum up as a cross-road blues.

Polaroids is a great book because it gives you a glimpse of an emerging artist #livinginthe70s . Just Kids is equally as fascinating for similar reasons. Overall, they work well together, functioning as a brilliant mesh of visual and written forms of creative expression.
