@BookBabe did you see there‘s a sequel?!!!
@BookBabe did you see there‘s a sequel?!!!
I just can‘t.
Well, I finished An American Marriage yesterday, so I thought I might as well ride the wave. I really like Ann Patchett, and I had purchased book talk tickets to see her in September from Greenlight Bookstore, but (coincidentally) I came down with the flu. My copy sat at Greenlight for several months, until my sister-in-law picked it up. Why not? It‘s not like I had plans.
I haven‘t read in ages—haven‘t had the want or desire to, but today I decided to pick up an unread book from my shelf. I miss my book club that I neglected, I miss seeing people in real life. I miss it all.
Sitting in the Charlotte airport, waiting on our flight to Rome. TRYING to read this book that‘s been on my book shelf since 2015. It‘s not so good 😑
You know, I‘m not really a rom-com, chick lit kinda girl, but I liked this one. Cute, interesting, and I like how the main character was autistic and the hero of the book.
An in-depth look at the Elizabeth Holmes & Theranos scandal. Very well researched, very long.
I feel like it‘s been a while since I‘ve been impressed with a book 😐
Book character day has always been one of my favorites as a teacher, but this year as principal, I rrrreeeaalllyyyy got to live my Trunchbull fantasy!!!!
The best thing our new apartment is the super amazing bathtub!!! It‘s soooo big, and I get to actually read in it without it leaking 🙌🏻
I can‘t believe that it‘s almost been two months since our wedding!! We had a “post-punk” wedding, with a lot of Talking Heads and Violent Femmes references. As fun as it was, I‘m glad that the planning and writing checks are done for a while! 😍🤗😍😍💜
On to the next book—let‘s see what Goodbye, Vitamin holds for me. I only have a couple of days of break left, so I am trying to squeeze as much reading as possible in!
I am very confused how this book got stellar reviews. The first one hundred pages were awesome, but then it lost me. I know that this will be a very unpopular opinion.
I‘m delaying cleaning up the apartment, but I AM thoroughly enjoying my winter break. So far, I like Exit West, and it seems like a an easy vacation read. I got my husband some dense nonfiction books for Christmas (not really my jam), so we have been co-reading. #marriedchristmas #books #vacation
Enjoying #marriedchristmas with a book club pick. I‘m hoping that I can actually go to meetings in 2019!!!!!
It‘s been a LLLOOONNNNGGGG time since I posted or since I‘ve had the peace to sit down and read, but I‘m back! Now that the wedding and move are over, I can finally pick back up on my book habit. Maybe I‘ll even get back to book club?????!!!
Super cool! Front row, and I got to ask a question! The Greenlight Bookstore is also making a podcast of this talk too if you're interested in hearing him speak! #onehourofculture #jeffreyeugenides #freshcomplaint #greenlightbookstore
Getting ready to see Jeffrey Eugenides (my favorite author!!) speak about his new book Fresh Complaint!!! #brooklyn #brooklynbookgirl #dreams
Really fantastic premise, but the ending was terrible and that last 100 pages were hard to get through. These blinds are best left unopened.
Definitely a highlight for me. Super cool! (Also, my copy has a drawing of a butterfly, but Mike's doesn't)
Book talk Tuesday!!! I just finished reading The History of Love, and now I'm here for her new release!
Started out really great, but about 4/5ths into the book, it lost me. Really cool premise, but I wish the ending was better thought out.
Found on the walk home from the grocery store. I love that it's commonplace to put your unwanted, but still useable belongings on the sidewalk here. Even better, since school officially starts next Tuesday, and I've been doing some work today, I might benefit from reading a story or two 🤗 #storycorp #reading #books
I went to the Brooklyn Public Library to return Commonwealth this morning, and I perused the new release section. THIS book has been on my list before it was release date, and I happily checked out the only copy! 🤗 Also, didn't the BPL look beautiful this morning? #brooklyn #brooklynbookgirl #brooklynpubliclibrary #bpl
Patchett paints a realistic picture of a blended family whose relationship ebbs and flows over decades and through many tribulations. This could have been an easily overwrought novel, but Patchett succinctly, yet completely, connects the step siblings to each other and their own individual stories. A beautiful story of family, shared memories, and empathy. I immediately bought my grandma a copy, it was that good.
Reading on my commute! #ihatenewark
Back to our regularly scheduled programming.... #brooklyn #brooklynpubliclibrary
After a late start and a trip to Trader Joe's, I'm enjoying this balmy Sunday reading my latest book checked out of the BPL. #brooklyn #brooklynpubliclibrary #brooklynbookgirl #couch #sunday
Behold The Dreamers was my January Book Club read, and it was certainly a great way to start the new year! #outofthisworldgiveaway Congrats, @valeriegeary on your new book!
The only positive about having to commute into Newark today for work is that I get a solid hour of reading time.
Getting adjusted...
Sheet Masks and reading...now that's relaxing!
Wow! A super fast read for the #2030somethingbookclub and I really loved it! Sure, maybe the quantum physics are a little iffy, but if you love sci-fi or parallel realities, then you'll love this book!
Lisa Ko does a brilliant job capturing the "outsider" alien feeling that many adopted children experience. She's going to be at the Community Bookstore in Park Slope, Brooklyn on July 26, if you are interested in hearing her speak!
Where/when do I do a lot my reading? Why, at the laundromat! This is probably one of my favorite hours of the week because I get to read and be quiet. The white noise of the dryers in the background don't hurt either. So far, really liking my #2030somethingbookclub read!
So, I'm mad behind on all of my fun summer reading (and work related for that matter), but I'm able to read my last month section of The Leavers while my waiting on my laundry at the laundromat. Incredibly good so far!
I hate to bail on books, but I really disliked this one for the lack of action, conclusion, and character development outside of the 2 to 3 main characters. I thought it was interesting to split chapters between different geographical points and to frame things within sobriety. However; Buntin could have either blended the line between truth and fiction more for Cat's narrative or been more up front.
It's been a long time since I've posted, but I absolutely LOVED this beautiful book about messy situations. It was the May Pick by the Brooklyn Public library, and I attended a lot of the events that they held in conjunction with the book. Reads easy and with a tongue that illustrates an old school Atlanta that I love and know well. Pick it up!
