Nick Bell is starting the new school year trying to be better. He‘s taking his tablets for ADHD & staying out of trouble, as agreed with his dad. But he is writing fanfic about the superheroes active around the city. Particularly ShadowStar. Also his best friend Seth has been MIA all summer- does he have a secret boyfriend?

This has been sitting on my shelf for a while now, it seemed like a good time to read it. Motherhood is the major theme here, and the story explores it from many directions. What makes a mother, can she ever be a mother no longer, what impact does a mother's actions (or lack of action) have on her child. At a broader level it's about family, community, love and friendship. It's an excellent novel.

I liked this one! A little unconventional. Stream-of-consciousness, but not in an inaccessible way (looking at you, James Joyce). Instead, it‘s more thoughtful and ruminating as Elyria tries to find her place in the world and within herself. #booked2020 #millennialauthor Book 4/12 for #bfc28 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
