The Story Girl | L. M. Montgomery

We're leaving tomorrow to go to see family for Christmas, so we had Christmas for the three of us last night. I am watching the beginning of the series while I fold laundry and pack. I have a suspicion that I might have loved this show as a kid because every girl is dressed like Samantha Parkington.

Very very sweet stories all variations on some themes: 1) a very poor family cannot afford anything for Christmas and something happens that means the family can have traditional Christmas food and the kids gifts, and 2) there‘s been some rift in the family (normally over inheritance of land) and something happens to heal the rift. I would have preferred some diversity in themes. Short and good for a low-anxiety read. ⬇️

I loved reading about all the little secrets as the Joseph children prepared gifts for each other! (Also, why are children so often described as having “curly heads”?!) In the end, this is yet another sweet story of kindness and sharing at Christmas. 💜🎄

I was going to use it for the quote, but decided it was a little misleading out of context 😂 @julieclair I love how the story highlights that the homemade gifts the children made for each other were not forgotten and were still appreciated, even alongside the bounty of gifts from the Ralstons! lauraisntwilder The happiest Christmas morning I can remember was when my son was 3 and he got the talking Vanellope (from Wreck-It Ralph) doll he'd asked for. I made pancakes and made small ones for the doll and he thought it was to coolest thing ever. ❤️ This was a sweet story. I liked that the "needy" person wasn't necessarily poor 2d

TheAromaofBooks My mom loves Christmas so I have loads of happy Christmas memories. But one of my favorites was a few years ago when the family had planned to get together 12/26 instead of 12/25, so a rare Christmas where the husband and I were going to be home alone for the holiday - and it SNOWED, like several inches of snow, which never happens here on Christmas and was supposed to be rain but instead it was just so perfect and fluffy!!! 2d

BarbaraJean One of my favorite Christmases was when I was living in South Africa & didn't return to the US at Christmas. My roommate & I invited two friends for a Christmas Eve sleepover—we decorated Christmas cookies by candlelight because of a power out. Next up for #KindredSpiritsChristmas is set in a women‘s boarding house. 5 young women who are good friends & can‘t go home for Christmas decide to try to make a happy Christmas for a lonely lady who‘s been living there for 14 years & has no friends & no money. It‘s really sweet & fun & reminds me of Anne & her roommates while she was in college. 4⭐️ 80 points
