Dare Me: A Novel | Megan Abbott
post image

After Dark - Haruki Murakami: Eyes mark the shape of the city.

Bunny - Mona Awad: We call them Bunnies because that is what they call each other. Seriously. Bunny.

Dance, dance, dance - Haruki Murakami: I often dream about the Dolphin Hotel.

Dare me - Megan Abbott: “Something happened, Addy. I think you better come.“

Play it as it lays - Joan Didion: What makes Iago evil? some people ask. I never ask.

1Q84 | Haruki Murakami

Been seeing lots of things for this book lately. Figured I should give it a try since I was looking for a new read. It‘s daunting at the size of it and how long it is, but I‘m enjoying it so far.

The Earthquake Bird | Susanna Jones

1. Tagged. The Earthquake Bird by Susannah Jones. I remember being obsessed by it some years ago. - I even once missed my commuter train stop on my way home from work at theatre in the middle of the night because I was so hooked 😅
2. Unheimlich (=eerie, uncanny), a YA romantic thriller omnibus by Ursula Isbel. Got it on my 13th b'day. Still reread it every once in a while.
3. After Dark and/or Dance Dance Dance, my two faves by Haruki Murakami.

StaceGhost Yuki I love your choices! Murakami is such a good reread. I think my most rereads are boring— Jane Eyre, Anne of Green Gables, and Anna Karenina. 8mo
dabbe Yowza! 3 I've never heard of and now on the TBR. Thanks for sharing. 💚💙💚 8mo

Yuki_Onna @StaceGhost Classics aren't (necessarily😉) boring! At least not Jane Eyre😁
I've never read the other two. I must say that I'm impressed by your rereading of Anna Karenina 🤯

The tagged. A new #HarukiMurakami book is always exciting for me.
It was published in Japan last year, but the German translation (Die Stadt und ihre ungewisse Mauer) just came out at the end of January 2024.
(I'll wait for the paperback before I acquire it, though).

#SundayFunday #tattoos #books #read #MarilynMonroe #HarukiMurakami

Cool question! - But no, none. I have three tattoos atm and have planned more, but no book related ones till now. The tattoos I have and the ones planned are quotes by Marilyn Monroe, song lyrics and animals.

Yuki_Onna ... Continued:
Oh yes - one book related tattoo plan I have. If I'm ever lucky enough to meet Haruki Murakami in person, I'm going to ask him to give me an autograph on my right wrist and get that tattooed.
I'm not an autograph hunter at all, I used to work at theatre and have met enough famous people to know they're just people like every other.
But Haruki Murakami inspired me enough to pick up my writing again, so - heck yes!

Sweet Bean Paste | Durian Sukegawa
post image

I noticed the #JanuaryinJapan reading challenge on Instagram, and it motivated me to read more translations! This month, I‘ve read Sweet Bean Paste, All the Lovers in the Night, The Kamogawa Food Detectives & Before the Coffee gets Cold.

Any suggestions for my 1st #HarukiMurakami novel? I‘ve heard his work is VERY misogynistic.

30. International Jazz Day for #MayMontage

Most of Murakami's works have been influenced by music, most notably Classical and Jazz.
It's a widely known fact that music lover Murakami owned and ran a Jazz Bar in the 1970s.

Also checking in for last weekend's #20in4 #Readathon - which didn't add up to much timewise ⬇️

Yuki_Onna ... continued - My cold hindered me quite a bit from reading, I slept most of the time... 🤧😴
But I got a chunk of pages read of both of my current reads, so it went fine nevertheless.✌️
