Bailedbailed

I‘m a Murakami fan, but I just could not get into this story. Bailing, but I may try it again when I‘m feeling smarter.

Pickpick

Libraries, jazz, literary references, ambiguity, cats. A very Murakami-esque novel but not one of my favorites. If you love his writing you will probably appreciate it. But some of the themes, reality vs dreams, consciousness, loneliness, love etc are tackled in better ways in his other novels.

3.5 stars. First read of 2025

BarbaraBB That‘s too bad. He used to be so good 2w
JenP @BarbaraBB I did still enjoy it but just not as much as some of his other works 1w
BarbaraBB I already felt that way about 1w

sarahbarnes Bummer, I was excited about this one. Agree with @BarbaraBB that I miss reading his earlier works. Although I did like IQ84. 1w
BarbaraBB @sarahbarnes I liked it too, I read them in three parts soon after their publication. Maybe that‘s why I was a bit disappointed by the ending, I had been anticipating it for a long time. 1w
JenP @sarahbarnes I think it‘s still worth reading. If you liked his earlier works. It was fun picking up on the references and nods to other works. And I still found it to be an enjoyable read and a large part of it centers around a library so I did love that 1w
SilversReviews Love this cover!! 1w

#WondrousWednesday @Eggs

I hope I'm not too late to play this
2/ City and It's Uncertain Walls - what a brilliant title, just caught my eye, so I'm intrigued
1/ that would be a room with ambient lighting, a fire going on the background, the one that crackles, coffee and a stack of books, yeah, a nice dream 😂 reality where ever I can fit it in

Eggs Love #1 📖 🔥 📚 2mo

I'm not really a Murakami fan, per se. The only book I've read by him thus far is Norwegian Wood, which I did enjoy! But his newest book apparently deals with a library, and I couldn't resist that! 🤭📚🩷

Thank goodness you #Knoph and #NetGalley for providing this #ARC Advance Reading Copy. Expected publication date is November 19, 2024.

5 Stars • This is Murakami‘s first novel in six years. In "The City and Its Uncertain Walls," Haruki Murakami weaves a complex tale of a walled city inhabited by a young man and a girl. The city is guarded by a giant and populated by golden-haired beasts. ⬇️

suvata The girl works in a library collecting old dreams, and the man must enter the city to become a dream reader to find his true self. The story explores themes of separation of body and consciousness, reality and fantasy, and the power of literature. 6mo
Bklover Ooooh, this sounds good!!! 6mo

The tagged. A new #HarukiMurakami book is always exciting for me.
It was published in Japan last year, but the German translation (Die Stadt und ihre ungewisse Mauer) just came out at the end of January 2024.
(I'll wait for the paperback before I acquire it, though).
