Pickpick

Rich, inexhaustible, copious in historical details, the minutia of life in the streets: wet steps, slippery with seaweed;rich in the brilliant analysis of literary luminaries‘ books;rich in dialogue; rich in social & political history; rich in current events, corruption.

A Roma child, found dead in the waters of the Quay, haunts Brunetti. Just know this: the resolution emulates real life.#serieslove2025 #17

“Had a man ever been married to a woman whose moral code was based on a British novel?”

I so adore this series! #serieslove2025

https://davidvbarron.com/2011/10/31/the-gypsy-pt7-his-books/

After reading gypsy boy a previous boyfriend of the author (who is mentioned more in the second book apparently) wrote an interesting blog about both books, including a statement from the authors family accusing lies and fabrication 🤔

Pickpick

A glimpse into the Romany Gyspy world, strict traditions, illegal activities , colourful language! and as a child knowing no different. I really wasn‘t prepared for the level of abuse this poor boy suffered. Born into a well know fighting family & expected to follow in his father‘s footsteps and not bring shame upon the Walsh name.
Heartbreaking , A difficult read at times 🙏

Bookwormjillk So glad when the dad bought that china or whatever it was. Love the image here too. Maybe I should binge watch Little House tonight?

This book is growing on me now that I know it's not really about anything. Kind of like Seinfeld.

AllDebooks @Cuilin reading it alongside Hard Times has definitely shown the extraordinary differences in life, both rural and city over such a short period of time. 2mo
AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk I had a nostalgia attack for LHOTP from that image. 😍 2mo
KAO I was hungry when I started this chapter, and all of the food references were noted with particular interest! And thank goodness for the glossary at the back of my book, so I can find out what “bloaters” and other terms mean! 2mo
KAO I‘m ready to bring back the name “love apples” for tomatoes! 2mo
BarkingMadRead @AllDebooks @Bookwormjillk so much of this gives me little house vibes 2mo
Bklover I‘ve had little house vibes too! @Bookwormjillk It‘s growing on me too! Once you stop waiting for something to happen it‘s all rather lovely. 2mo
Sparklemn @Bklover That is a perfect one-sentence review! Made me chuckle. 😆 (edited) 2mo
julieclair I was surprised by the number of unhoused people wandering through the hamlet. Even families. So sad. But I loved how generous the women were. 2mo
rubyslippersreads I‘m finding this book rather comforting, and am thinking maybe it‘s the lack of action. 🙂 2mo
