Gypsy Boy. Mikey Walsh
Gypsy Boy. Mikey Walsh | Mikey Walsh
A classic tale of triumph over adversity, this is the story of one boy's struggle to escape from a secret world. Mikey was born into a Romany Gypsy family. Here he describes the vibrant and loyal culture he grew up in, and also the violence and grief which forced him to make the agonizing decision to leave.

After reading gypsy boy a previous boyfriend of the author (who is mentioned more in the second book apparently) wrote an interesting blog about both books, including a statement from the authors family accusing lies and fabrication 🤔

A glimpse into the Romany Gyspy world, strict traditions, illegal activities , colourful language! and as a child knowing no different. I really wasn‘t prepared for the level of abuse this poor boy suffered. Born into a well know fighting family & expected to follow in his father‘s footsteps and not bring shame upon the Walsh name.
Heartbreaking , A difficult read at times 🙏

#MemorableMemoirs. Mikey Walsh didn't go to school, travelled in a caravan and seldom mixed with non-Gypsies ... and this was in 1980s England. His story is funny and violent and heartbreaking in so many ways but utterly fascinating. #Booktober

Hobbinol I enjoyed it too!🤓 8y
