Hi, 👋

How are you all?

Grab a ☕️ and join in the #Chatterday chitchat.

All are welcome to join in. No topics are off the table. This is a safe place to share your thoughts, feelings, plans, and experiences. Just as you would with a friend in the real world.

Wishing you all a fab weekend. 🌞

AllDebooks I'm relaxing after a grocery shop. I'll spend most of this weekend planning out posts and activities for #MidwinterSolace #StorySpins #VirginiaBloomsberries and @TheLittensSociety 😅I'll squeeze a bit of time to read my #Grinch pick for #ChristmasCrimeChallenge @Ruthiella @RaeLovesToRead 2h
Bookwormjillk I‘m going to run some errands then come home and putter and relax. It‘s been a long week and I have a giant bandage on my face from the dermatologist yesterday. 2h
kspenmoll Relaxing all morning then going w son & husband to get my son a suit jacket. 2h

sebrittainclark I've got a super busy weekend full of social activities for the whole family, but we're having the first meeting of the new silent book club my sister is starting today, so I'm very excited for that. 1h
Ruthiella Enjoy your precious reading time! 📚🎄🔪🎅🏻💀 1h
MidnightBookGirl Curled up reading even if I have a million things to do before Wednesday for our flight to Oklahoma (I dread flying), but technically the book is for one of the bookstores book clubs for tomorrow night , so it‘s work related. 1h

This was a big step up from the last 2 festive mysteries Benedict put out. Much more polished, pacey and fun.

The metaphors still suck, the cheese level is insane, and the 80 year olds read like 30 year olds. That said, this was a Christmassy romp with plenty of action, and I enjoyed it more than the others!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

#christmascrimechallenge @Ruthiella Set in Winter!

Ruthiella Nice! Looks like a fun one! 💀🎅🏻🔪🎄 3d

Bedtime reading. Finished A Banquet of Consequences (E.George) tonight so on to lighter fare.

AllDebooks I haven't read any of his before. I chose one for #ChristmasCrimeChallenge and I'm really enjoying it, so far. 3d

Mehso-so

This one is not as good as the first one if for no other reason than the MC was not drunk or in the throes of a mental health crisis and thud there is no excuse for how much of an idiot she is. The whole why she is there also made 0 sense for Marcus to do, it‘s explained, it doesn‘t make sense.

#ChristmasCrimeChallenge “Your Choice!” @Ruthiella @RaeLovesToRead

Ruthiella 😂 Great review! I wasn‘t a huge fan of the first book due to the poor decision making by the protagonist, so I will skip this one for sure. 🎅🏻💀🎄🔪 4d
5feet.of.fury @Ruthiella yeah this is more of that without the mitigating factors of being unstable with no place to go and a gaslighting ex involved… so she‘s just a dummy lol (edited) 3d

Read this for the mystery book club I help lead at work, but as rural noir, it works for the #christmascrimechallenge as well! It's very good and I'm sure I'll read the rest of the trilogy at some point.

Ruthiella Excellent! 🎄🔪🎅🏻💀 I‘ve only read “The Cutting Season” by her and I‘ve long meant to read more. 4d

This was a fun installment, with seances, a spooky mansion and swindlers.

A low pick. The mystery was OK but I liked the Saskatchewan setting, as I've not read many books set in that province of Canada.

Unnatural Causes | P. D. James

Finished my first #ChristmasCrimeChallenge book! 📕 “red cover”

Inspector Daglish takes a holiday with his elderly aunt on the Suffolk coast when the corpse of a neighbor turns up.

I read this before but had no memory of the plot. It was a very entertaining re-read. I love how James makes virtually everyone look guilty. The ending was a little OTT and the confession of the murderer a wee bit convenient, but up until then I was hooked.

willaful Oh, I was just about to ask if we could start now or if we started in December. Guess I know!

I really like An Unnatural Job for a Woman in this series, though parts of it have not aged well. (Kink-shaming.)

Ruthiella @willaful You can start any time and finish at the end of the year. 👍 For some people 9 books in one month is a piece of cake and some of us need more time. 😃 I agree, parts of PD James have not aged well, but she does the plotting and myriad suspects so well. 5d

This was an entertaining and fast paced mystery. As others have said, there were too many POVs, and some characters were more compelling to spend time with than others. It‘s a pick, but I don‘t think I‘ll continue with the series if it turns into one. #bookspin

Edited to add: I will use this for the “present” prompt of #ChristmasCrimeChallenge since it doesn‘t fit any other category!

squirrelbrain I‘ve seen lots about this, in fact the author was at the Harrogate Crimewriting Festival, but I‘ve never been drawn to it. Your review reinforces that! 5d
TheAromaofBooks Woohoo!! 4d
Susanita @squirrelbrain I think it would make a good TV series, which makes sense considering the author. 4d
Ruthiella I‘ve not heard of this author or title. You are making excellent progress in the challenge! 🎄🔪🎅🏻💀 (edited) 4d

Nope. Tried to read this for the #ChristmasCrimeChallenge
As a rule I don't like cosy anything, but I thought adding a fantasy element might help. It didn't. I could barely make it 20 pages. I think this one is probably bad even if you love cosy books. Would only take two hours or so to read, but life is still too short. I'd rather spend that time searching for a different book.
@RaeLovesToRead @Ruthiella

julesG There's always Fugitive Telemetry - cozy, locked room, and Murderbot. 5d
Nebklvr @julesG I basically listen to them on repeat 5d
Ruthiella You gave it a fair shot! I agree with @jules - expand the parameters for “cozy” and read something you will like instead. 5d

RaeLovesToRead Cosy can be a classic Big Four mystery! (But not The Big Four with Poirot - that sucked!) or a festive one! Or something daft involving scones lol. Drop me a message if you want to buddy read one on my pile 😄 Or just skip the prompt lol. But I love experimenting haha 5d
Leniverse @julesG @Nebklvr @Ruthiella @RaeLovesToRead I've just introduced my spouse and our teen to the graphic audio of Murderbot 😁 But I don't want to use rereads for the challenge. I will cosy up with a blanket and something Golden Age I haven't read yet. None of this newfangled cozy crime for me 😂 5d
RaeLovesToRead Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz is cosy but brilliant. Unlikely to trigger the aversion!!! 4d
Leniverse @RaeLovesToRead I enjoyed the movie, Not sure I have forgotten enough of it yet, but otherwise a good suggestion! 4d
