TieDyeDude I'm late to the party, but I really enjoyed this. Usually, King really flushes out the community that the book is taking place in, but this has such a narrow scope that the few characters and the hotel itself get much more attention. 3w

Karkar What always surprises me about this one every time I read it is back when he wrote it school shootings were not a thing. But you would think from this book he wrote it today. 2mo

5feet.of.fury Yeah, that was nuts. I can see why he pulled it after Columbine (and the continued epidemic of school shootings) with the way Charlie is presented in the end/showing the impact on the hostages as positive. 2mo

5feet.of.fury I liked when Ben Mears is talking about writing his new book and he says something about writing it really gory and detailed to “really rub the reader‘s nose in it” which is funny because that‘s what SK does -but hadn‘t REALLY done yet because this was his 2nd published book. Anyway, I just thought that was interesting, my brain latched on to that tiny detail 3mo

5feet.of.fury Way too many townspeople at points. But I really liked the core characters 3mo

BookwormAHN My copy just came in from the library but since this is a reread, one of the things that drove me nuts the first time around was the endless descriptions of scenery 😸 3mo

Bookwormjillk I loved the forward (read by King himself in the audiobook.) It took a while for this book to get going. I was a little surprised he was allowed to get away with that even in his second book. I enjoyed it though. Loved the nods to Dracula that he built in. 3mo

Karkar The first time I read this book it scared me more than any other book before. But this being my third time thru it was a different read to pick up details that I did not the past times. 3mo

TieDyeDude @barkingmadread @5feet.of.fury @Bookwormahn @bookwormjillk @karkar I get the annoyance with a lot of characters, but I think it helps up the stakes of the story; you're not just concerned about a handful of main characters, you worry about the whole town. I thought the same recently with Billy Summers; with the office workers and neighbors in the first part of the story, there is more dread because there are many people you want to be safe 🙂 3mo

TieDyeDude I also enjoyed, in this book, seeing the characters figure out which vampire myths would work or not. I like when his characters live in “our world“ and have the same cultural touchstones. There is less “Why would you do that?!“ and more “Is that what I would have done?“ 3mo

BookwormAHN They have them on ebay starting at around $50 and I found mine on alibris for around that price back when this first started. 3mo

Fortifiedbybooks I won't be able to participate this month, The book isn't for sale (other than costly collectibles) and my library doesn't have the individual title or the collection. 3mo

TieDyeDude My reading for the second half of October has been slow and my library still doesn't have copies of this available. I think the announcement of the new series probably had an effect on availability. I'm going to try to read this in November, since I read Salem's Lot recently. I did see an article about the new show and a hope that they cast a full-figure lead since Carrie is supposed to be heavier. 4mo

5feet.of.fury I liked Carrie, soooooo to the point compared to newer King, still good character studies just shortened. I liked the way the story was kind of bookended. 🩸 4mo

BookwormAHN I'm also on a 10 wk wait for Salem's Lot but it is a reread for me. I think I enjoyed Carrie more this go round. This also may be the only King book where he really stays with this story and we don't get everyone on the planet's backstory 😸 4mo

Balibee146 This was my first read of Carrie and I was surprised how short it was. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would as exposure to bits of the films meant it didn't hugely appeal to me. I think the writing style with the patchwork of voices /reporting style lifted an otherwise "by the numbers" plot progression. 4mo

Balibee146 Oh and I didn't spot any mentions of a character wearing a "sportcoat" in this one. Over the course of reading my first few King novels that kept getting mentioned and it isn't a terminology we use in the UK so I noticed it.... Then got a bit obsessed with it being mentioned often ..... I shall be annoying you all with "Spoartcoat" Spotting as the months go by... Sorry! 4mo
