This was a really cute read about embracing our specialness no matter our age! Also, I think it's great that this is a Japanese title dealing with this topic since uniformity is often valued in Japan even among children #bilingual

Francisco Jimenéz draws from his experience as a young child growing up in a migrant family in California. Panchito desperately wants a red ball, but the family has no money for that kind of present.

When his mother receives a small gift from his father and he sees her joyous reaction at such a gift he decides to be grateful for what he does have.

“For English-language learners, however, not knowing English is a tremendous disadvantage, not because their native language is ineffectual for learning but because schools do not generally view languages other than English as a resource for learning. ...it would be as if the strong foundation that had been created were abandoned and the building materials were placed on top of a sandlot across the street.” #bilingual #education

Chapter 1, paragraph 1, as a bilingual student I knew this feeling all too well. #Bilingual #notdumb

I had low expectations for this one but the toddler's delight in seeing our bath time routine in a book has convinced me otherwise. It's cute, and our copy from the library is bilingual in Japanese so dad read it that way. Nice! Bonus points for including toe counting 👣 #babyreads #bilingual #boardbook #nihongo

I loved this #bilingual picture book! Last semester, I read it to two 2nd grade classes as part of my practicum. The kids loved the book too! This story about a #biracial girl who was born to stand out is a great book that children can enjoy and learn important lessons about being yourself.

A great book for anyone studying German! Brilliant explanations, examples an easy to grasp (even for beginners). Collins is wonderful when it comes to language dictionaries and is by far my absolute favourite! I can't wait to buy a Japanese one

Cherrielein0508 It's so funny to see someone else trying to learn your language, when you're hustling hard to learn theirs. 😊 Good luck. 🍀 7y
HollieTurner @Cherrielein0508 Haha! Thank you! I'm getting their slowly but surely. I've found that English and German are very similar which is a big help 😊 7y
Cherrielein0508 @HollieTurner That's right. But I think that the grammar in german is a little bit - I don't want to say harder - more complex. What do you think? ? Always down for a "practice conversation" ?☺️?? 7y

HollieTurner @Cherrielein0508 I agree! But I think English is really difficult because sentence structures are so weird sometimes 😂 7y
Cherrielein0508 That's true! I mean, I know the words, but sometimes there not in the right order, or the sentence sounds weird, or "too german". ? Hard to explain ? And there are those words, that sound to familiar. Their, they're, your, you're...but I kinda got used to it. Do you have the same "problems" with the German language? 7y
Cherrielein0508 See...they're 7y
HollieTurner @Cherrielein0508 I think my main difficulty is just when to use der, die and das ... It's simple but I always end up confusing them 😄 7y
Cherrielein0508 Yeah, that's pretty tough. 7y
