I‘ve seen so many glowing reviews of this book, but I didn‘t get around to reading it myself until my niece (going into 6th grade) told me it was one of her favorites. I have to agree that it‘s a great story that deals with both very relatable and important but difficult topics in a clear way. I also loved the musical aspect (Izabella is a pianist) and the vocabulary that made its way in from class discussion.

I picked up these lovelies at my new fav bookshop, South Main Book Company in Salisbury, NC. It‘s definitely worth the trip!!

OMG. I am vicariously indulging in every sip of Evelyn Hugo's life tea (so far). I love this relatable(ish) content. Less than 50 pages to go. Let's find out why she really is the monster she claims to be ?

This is a really entertaining book :)! Travel with twin princesses Flissa and Sara through the treacherous lands of the Twists as they search for a magical antidote to save their mother – and maybe the whole kingdom – from an evil magician ✨🌌!

A great coming-of-age story about a biracial teen who is trying to find her identity while navigating being a teenager. I found Navaeh real, flawed, and honest in her search for belonging.

Another wonderfully written and diverse MG story. 💚 This story follows two biracial brothers and the racism they face at a new school. The story is told with fencing at its core and I knew absolutely nothing about this sport before this book. I liked the parallels between the events taking place at school and the rules of fencing. The writing is short and choppy at times but once you get use to the rhythm it works for the story.
HF Novel in verse with multiple POVs set in Cuba 🇨🇺 mid-1840s. This is the story of Antonio Chuffat, Cuba‘s warrior of words, a young man of African, Chinese, and Cuban descent who becomes a champion for civil rights. “Liberty is the beast that is never tamed; it breaks the chains that bind it with blood and fire, to reclaim its rights.”

Slowly reading Blended by Draper. It has been on my to-read list for too long. When my students check it out, it seems to take a lot of time for them to read it, which means they stay with it and don't give up. Now I see where they might need comprehension support. I liked this quote.
