#TheGreyWolf #LouisePenny #SeriesLove2025

This is the nineteenth mystery of the Armand Gamache series. As Gamache sits with his wife, Reine-Marie, in their back garden, the phone keeps ringing relentlessly. When he finally answers, his rage shatters the calm of their quiet Sunday morning. The Grey wolf, a missing coat, and intruder alarm, a note for gamache reading, "This might interest you."

EadieB A puzzling scrap of paper with a mysterious list - and then a murder. Their hunt grows increasingly desperate and the enormity of the creature becomes clear. If they fail, the devastating consequences would reach into the largest cities and smallest villages. If you like books that track down a threat, then you will love this book. Highly recommended! 1w

Mehso-so

The third audio narrator of the series is introduced with this installment. I liked the previous two, this one not so much because the voices aren‘t as distinct. The pronounced French accent meant distinguishing among the several French names was difficult to track, but that‘s no fault of the narrator.

This story sprawls across many locations and characters, and as a result there was too much explanation of connections rather than showing.

Tamra Jean-Guy is getting to be rather a predictable mono-dimensional character - all rough arrogant impatience. 2w
Susanita I‘ve never liked Jean-Guy! He‘s so annoying. 2w
Tamra @Susanita I suspect he is supposed to highlight the mature wisdom of Gamache, but it‘s getting stale. Too pat now. 2w

The 2nd in the Gamache series, still set in the small village of Three Pines in very cold winter (I would not last in Quebec). This one kills off a horrible person & introduces some new characters. More info is given about an ongoing plot to ruin Gamache‘s job, & I‘m interested to see how the plan continues. Only problem I had with this one is fat-phobic descriptions of a teen. Her mom verbally abused (TW) her, but there‘s other descriptions, too.

willaful yes, the fatphobic language in this was a LOT. 1mo

Gamache doesn't want his wife to be at the place where a murder happened, so she's going to Three Pines. 😂

Ruthiella It was that or her second choice, Cabot Cove, Maine. 😂 1mo
Faranae Is she also planning a trip to Badger's Drift, England? 😂 1mo

My husband not only left our nice warm bed to make me breakfast, he did so when he was just at the part where Gamache explains the murder. Greater love hath no man!

Ruthiella 😂 You are a lucky woman. 1mo
Faranae That one is definitely a keeper! 1mo
CatLass007 😮He is amazing. Oh and I‘m about five books behind in this series. Keep him! 1mo

Whyyyyy did it take me so long to read this? I blame the holiday blues. I‘ll admit that I got a little angry at the ending, because it felt unfinished and just not “right” somehow. Then I realized that Louise just threw a cliffhanger in there 😂 I‘m so confused 😂 #readyourkindle

Bookwormjillk Oh you‘re at the best part of the series 2mo
PuddleJumper I'm so behind on this series. I really enjoy them but they make me use my brain 🤣 2mo

I found this disappointing after the first book. A lot of time spent in very unpleasant POVs, a lot of nasty fat-shaming, and -- as with the first -- Gamache seems far too willing to let his suspects be involved in the case. (Has he never heard of the concept of tampering with evidence?) Still, I like the characters enough, and am curious enough about the dangling threads, to read on.

Absolute best thing about reading a very popular book is browsing the foreign language editions. What is even happening?!

JamieArc This made me laugh. And the title translation often baffles me as well! 2mo
