“Originally written in Dutch and told through Roya‘s eyes, this award-winning book is funny, sweet and touching. Readers will enjoy the playful moments between Roya, her brothers, and Mishka, particularly as Roya discovers Mishka‘s unique way of expressing deep comfort and security.“ Read more about this USBBY Outstanding International Book here: https://wowlit.org/on-line-publications/review/xvii-2/7/

Late to the game because Monday is busy.

1) Good-ish. Landed on a direction for my next Toastmasters speech, so that‘s always a mental load off. Got my taxes finished. I was unemployed almost the whole year so it didn‘t take long.

2) I think positive affirmations are good for people. In the US, at least, the culture seems to be so focused on the negative and tearing people down for anything they do. Positive affirmations can help buoy us.

Kerrbearlib Sounds like you had a good day! Thanks for responding. I hope you have a wonderful week! Thanks for tagging this book as well, I keep meaning to read it! 1w

April 15th #DynamicDs Denial. I couldn't find a TV show so I chose a movie, which I would love to see. @Eggs @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks

4⭐️ I had some issues with the book. While it was a really good book, I had some trouble finding out what this book wanted to be: is it supposed to be a #historicalfiction book or a #contemporaryfiction book? I liked the contemporary timeline over the historical timeline. There were some details that I missed or glossed over and will probably want to reread the book. #2025 #fiction #readalong

An excellent, timely read about individual and generational trauma which is often inseparable. Also, it‘s a story of hope. Wilkerson is very good at storytelling.

Seren and I had a cozy evening with this memoir. Reached about the halfway mark, but now I need to get some sleep!

It took me a little bit to settle into this, which very much could have been me and not the book, but once I did, I really liked it. Then main focus is on Ebony in 2019, but we get to know her family and a very special family heirloom. So many black American families don‘t know their history, and I felt like this helped seize history back. And the reader is very good, but I‘m perplexed by the choice to have a white woman read this.

squirrelbrain I preferred this one to Black Cake. 2mo
Hooked_on_books @squirrelbrain That‘s always a good sign for a writer‘s trajectory. I read BC, but don‘t remember enough about it to compare them. 2mo
