Participated in tonight‘s virtual event with author Fiona Davis in an interview with journalist Mary Shanklin sponsored by the Mark Twain House in Hartford, CT. She was delightful-wonderful background information. Now this read will be so much richer for me! #TheMET #Egypt

One of the more interesting pieces I saw yesterday as a hobbled my way around the museum. Palmer‘s “Indian Girl, or The Dawn of Christianity” where she supposedly is hit by a spiritual bolt of lightning by finding a cross in the woods. Beautiful statue, sad re-writing of history. #themet #nyc

ImperfectCJ Probably this says not-good-things about my relationship with technology, but at first glance I thought she was looking at a phone. 2y

These dresses were featured in the current #Camp exhibit at #TheMet and when I saw it, my King brain swooned...even if it is just for the movie. 😆💁🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️

That Summer: A Novel | Lauren Willig

When at the Met in her younger years Julia thought: “Sometimes she would imagine herself taking up residence in one of those rooms, like the runaway children in From the Mixed-up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler.”

I realize you must all be thinking: that porch again?! I am back to work Tuesday so will have less porch reading time. 😥 so relief is in sight!

merelybookish That porch is lovely! No need to apologize! 7y

Pickpick

The tagged book is a novel about the modern-day pursuit of a rare and fantastic JMW Turner painting that the artist created while in residence at Petworth House in Suffolk. Both the art caper and the historical-fiction sections ask the reader to imagine a glorious (and alas totally fictional) painting that would render the viewer awestruck.

It boggles the mind.

Swe_Eva I‘ll believe that - first time I saw a Turner “in the flesh,” I was pretty gobsmacked. 👍🏻 7y
Dogearedcopy @Swe_Eva This last time, I rounded the corner, and the two Turners that were mounted in the gallery hit me like headlights! I audibly gasped! #TheMet 7y
Swe_Eva @Dogearedcopy The pictures of his paintings are NOT a good representation of reality! 😁 I had a similar reaction first time I saw a Rembrandt in real life - I suddenly realized why he's considered a master, something images of his work doesn't quite relay. 7y
