A good second instalment in these loosely connected stories. This predated the Brontë book and was a fun tale of orphans and spoilt boarding school kids learning to work together.
Trix and I enjoyed and moved on to book three.

Loved this story!! What a beautifully written plot! And the characters were so real to me. It was easy to get immersed in the story and invested in the characters. I loved how faith in God played a major role without being preachy or boring. If you enjoy unusual casts and inspirational, historical romance, then definitely give it a try! #beautifulstory #wellwritten #cleanread #inspirational

I forgot to post last week. I don‘t know how I escaped reading Mandy before now as it remains one of my daughter‘s favorite books. It is delightful and she was so surprised when I told her it was written by Julie Andrew‘s!
I loved Woodworking! So glad it was a #CampLitsy25 selection.

How did I not read this as a little girl? It's so exactly my cup of tea, evoking memories of The Secret Garden, Sensible Kate and other beloved orphan stories. I like how Mandy starts out seeming so perfect, but we learn she has a lot of normal childish feelings and dumb ideas. 😂 And the ending is just perfect, because it addresses the unasked question of a lot of orphanage stories -- what about the other kids?
