Modern Romance: An Investigation | Aziz Ansari

so-so

Part sociological study, part advice, and a huge part of humor. Ansari's take on relationships in today's world with an infinite number of options opened my eyes a little bit. I only wish that with all the casual one nighters, there was at least one mention of std prevention. Maybe, I am a prude or Dr. Varghese is still influencing my thinking.

Riveted_Reader_Melissa I‘ll admit, I wanted to read this when it came out, but after a #MeToo story about him pressuring a date for sex...I just couldn‘t read it after that. So I‘m finding the lack of STD prevention discussed, confirming my bad opinion on how he treats partners. ☹️ 4y

Butterfinger Oh @Riveted_Reader_Melissa if I had known that I wouldn't have read it at all. I did get the feeling that he is one of those comedians that make fun of other people to get a laugh. So even though the study was informative, I was put off by his humor and now I have a bad opinion of him too. 4y

I have a feeling 25 years ago, when this book was originally published, it must have been considered groundbreaking. A new blend of history, investigative reporting and personal experiences all told in the first person narrative. The agonizing recounting of a mountain climb gone terribly wrong. I was completely captivated by the events before, during & after the ordeal. I never considered how much money and ego is at stake amongst the guides👇🏼
