so-soI finished this, but other than the story of the water buffalo and the boy who left and then returned home, don‘t ask me to tell you any details. I struggled to stay focused during several sections. I see how it addressed important points about colonialism, but I also expected more about the actual coffee business.

That was tough going, the author chose to focus a lot on the Dutch-German relationship but in the most boring way possible (a whole chapter on football 🫠) Of course I still learned a lot, but reading this was not exactly fun.
Favourite fun fact: The distinctive Berlin dialect comes from a huge number of Dutch people settling in the area at one point in history.

They're basically bite-size battered fish. They're less of a faff than full-size battered fish and the addition of a spice rub was nice. The recipe called for a full tablespoon of ground bay leaf, which I felt was a lot, so I only put a fraction, and still it was all I could taste! Will make again.

My first interlibrary loan came in. I had no idea that it includes books from across the province and not just the nearest city. Why they get them from libraries nowhere near here instead of a library close by when they have them in stock seems odd. Only allowed to request two at a time so I went with a Nepal read for #FoodAndLit and a short book set in Iceland.
