An endearing book about how a bookstore brought people together during Covid in England, but it‘s quite sad at times. I loved the Book Pharmacy, what a fantastic idea!! Easy to read and beautifully written. I love my books and enjoyed reading about others who love reading also. I didn‘t realize this was a sequel and didn‘t feel like I missed anything in not reading the first book. Book #37 in 2024

I had high hopes for “The Lost Bookshop” as I always love a bookish cozy read. However, all three of the main characters felt kind of bland and poorly developed. The main characters also made frustrating and very rash decisions, and the actual story itself fell flat.

bookishbitch Oh that is very disappointing. Cute cover too! 1w
Gryffleclaw95 @bookishbitch I know right? I loved the cover and the gold foiling on it 😞 7d

I cannot say no to historical fiction set in a bookstore. I really liked the this story of three underestimated women trying to help a struggling shop unstuck the end when everything was resolved so quickly and easily it was jarring. #fourfoursin24 #retailgrayscale

Lauredhel I too am a sucker for bookshop books. I haven't read any so far this year... Ended up choosing a book of poetry with a B&W cover for this prompt. We shall have a nearly-halfway catchup soon 1w

This is a clever novel that follows the story of Loveday Cardew, a young woman working at a bookshop who prefers books to people. The novel explores themes of love, grief, and the power of literature. It explores her relationships with an array of characters, including her boss, Archie, and a poet, Nathan. The narrative is interspersed with Loveday's tattoos, which feature the first lines of her favorite books, adding a unique layer to the story.

A wonderfully magical book about 2 women separated by decades. Opaline is in 1921 fleeing her brother‘s attempts to arrange her marriage. Martha is our present day narrator fleeing an abusive husband. They are connected by a magical bookshop which appears then disappears. I very much enjoyed this book and it felt like a warm hug to all those who love literature. Even the dedication was special. “TO ALL THE BOOK LOVERS”

I dunno....that was kind of...bad? Maybe unoriginal is a better word. At 2.5x speed on audio, it was palatable; I'm pretty sure I would have skimmed parts if I was reading physically. I did love the idea of a slow burn romance, the introduction of puppy, of little old lady who knows her mysteries, of the potential of fixing up an old property and getting more involved with the community, 1/4

Robotswithpersonality 2/4 even a main character who's bad at life-preserving decisions and at lying. 🤦🏼‍♂️ There's actually the possibility that if I treat this whole book as a prologue, I could like the next in the series a lot more. There are a fair amount of easy shortcut stereotypes/two dimensional/brief descriptions in the characters introduced, 3w
Robotswithpersonality 3/4 but if I think of it as a Harlequin romance with a mystery twist, it's not any worse than a lot of books I read in my late teens/early twenties. For those who, like me, find it kind of shady, heads up that this M/M romance is not own voices rep as it is written by a woman under a pen name. 🙄 3w
Robotswithpersonality 4/4 Not to disparage some truly wonderful writing I have encountered in that space, but finding out the author previously wrote fanfic, is not surprising. If you're looking for a few hours of brain off diversion, you might enjoy it. 3w
rwmg Yeah, I've always found her books to be rather bland but OK for when I want something where no brain power is needed. I wasn't particularly surprised when I found out that she is a woman but I did not like the fact that quite apart from the male pen-name, she had actively tried to deny she was a woman and pass herself off as a gay man. 3w
Robotswithpersonality @rwmg Yikes! The back story emerges and it is icky! 3w
