Okay, I don't need much encouragement. 😆 Here's the latest progress pic of the #bookblanket. That's our queen size bed it is spread out on. Nearest the camera is the start of the year.

(Quick project description: for each book I read, I make a hexagon. The colour of the center tells you the genre, the outer ring tells you whether I bought the book this year, in 2017-18, in 2011-16, or got it from the library/other.)

@rabbitprincess TADA!

llwheeler It looks awesome! 5y
Samplergal Great idea! And beautiful! 5y
rabbitprincess WOW! That is amazing!!! 5y

AnneCecilie That‘s so cool. It looks gorgeous 5y
ljuliel Great idea, and nice work. Are you going to quit at year‘s end, or keep going til it‘s the size you want? 5y
shanaqui Thanks guys! 😊😊

@ljuliel Just to the end of the year -- it's already a very good lap blanket, and I'm pretty sure with my projected reading speed, I'll get to a good size at the end!

They're not for me, they're for Norman and Hogglestock! Well, I'll read them while putting my feet up on him...?

The blanket is my #bookblanket! It's getting big, around 150 motifs. Shall I post a full progress pic?

rabbitprincess Yes to progress pic and YES! to more BLCCs 😄 5y

Pickpick

These books just make me laugh so. much.

Help me decide a #bookblanket thing, though! Should this book be just turquoise for fantasy, or turquoise/hot pink for fantasy/romance, now Kate and Curran's courtship is really getting off the ground? The previous books are just classified fantasy in the blanket. I do actually have a poll on Twitter: https://twitter.com/shanaqui/status/1148733448330387457 But comments with opinions works too.

shanaqui My feeling is that these books get pigeonholed as 'paranormal romance' when, yes, love is a serious and important element of the plot and characterisation, but it's not ABOUT the romance. Certainly I categorised the first two books as primarily fantasy, with no hesitation.

(The colour is chosen based on primary genre; if the genre mashup is particularly close, I use two colours. Two is the max.)

the-woman-who-read-everything I haven‘t read this one, but it sounds like it could go either way, so I say pick whichever option looks best in your blanket 😁🧶 5y

Finishing this up today after stalling on my reread for way too long. I find this series a little daunting somehow -- there's so many books, so much lore to remember!

First though, some more work on my #bookblanket. It now makes a good lap blanket... Or a poncho for Norman the Situponus. (That's that my dad calls these inflatable hedgehogs -- species name E. situponus.)

Today's focus, I think. Once I'm caught up with my #bookblanket... which I should totally update you all on with a quick progress pic. I actually got way behind on making motifs and joining them, so it should actually be bigger, but you'll definitely get the idea now!

#bookblanket starting to look quite good, if I do say so myself. There's actually a whole new row worth to make and add. I've been reading fast!

Right now I happen to be reading Clouds of Witness at the same time as watching the Ian Carmichael tv dramatisation (while crocheting to catch up on this!). Wish we could put Carmichael's voice on Petherbridge's appearance - though Petherbridge is really no slouch as Peter, I just heard Carmichael first.

Hooked_on_books Wow, that looks great! 6y
rretzler Very nice. I‘m more of a knitter myself, never could seem to remember how to crochet from one project to the next. 😝 Big Fan of Dorothy L Sayers and Lord Peter! Enjoy. 6y
shanaqui @rretzler Agreed! I've read and reread the books a bunch of times, listened to the radioplays quite a few times, and seen the Petherbridge adaptations at least twice. The only thing new to me is the Ian Carmichael tv series! Even that's familiar enough from the books that crocheting while half watching it works, haha. 6y

What really fascinates me is how little we actually know for sure about Mars. Or most of our own Solar System. We talk so big, but...

Here's some #bookblanket progress! It's going to be about 1m x 2m, but it's early days yet. It has the width, but many more books to read/hexagons to make.

llwheeler It looks awesome so far 6y
ShyBookOwl What a great idea! I've been struggling for weeks to figure out a way to crochet an afghan that represents books I'm reading this year... you are genius! 6y
shanaqui @ShyBookOwl I think I got the idea from youtube! I'm really enjoying the process, it's so nice combining my hobbies like this! 6y
ShyBookOwl No kidding! I especially love the idea of thinking over a book while crocheting its square. I think I'll do something similar 🤗 6y

Bailedbailed

Bailed on this after finding out that, at the end, one character decides it's okay her brother took part in a gang rape, because at least he didn't also kill the woman.

Shame, because the world was interesting.

Not sure if I'm going to make a hexagon for my #bookblanket for this one. I read a good portion of it, so it is part of my reading journey...

SailorMoon I haven't read the book, but I remember bailing on one about almost the same subject a long time ago... I was literally about to throw up at some point. I wouldn't include it in my #bookblanket (if I ever made one!) because just being reminded of it makes me angry towards the characters and re-live the negative sensations I had while reading. So no, if I may... I'd suggest you don't add it! Let me know! 😉 6y

Reread! I did not love this book the first time, the second time I mildly enjoyed it, and truly it remains a 3-4 star book for me this third time, but there's something about it I come back to. Twice now!

#bookblanket motif: bright pink (romance), turquoise (fantasy) and emperor (reread).
