First book of August! This book is a must-read. It tells of a black family in the south struggling to survive, dealing with racism and “the way things are”. Excellently done. I have wanted to read this book since March when I first heard about it. I finally managed it. It seemed very long, but then ebooks often seem long to me. This book is from our local library and it was a wonderful read about Martha Washington‘s life. It portrayed her as a strong woman, very empathetic and a fierce protector of her family and especially George. The inclusion of many things about their daily lives were very interesting and made me feel I could understand her better. Finished listening to this one on my way there and back to a weight loss clinic. That probably doesn‘t matter at all, but this was such a sweet story and I will never hear, “Don‘t you wish you were here?” In the same way again. Wow! This book was amazing! To all my fairytale retelling lover friends: you have to read this! It‘s a retelling of Sleeping Beauty with great twist. Rose wakes up in her stasis tube after a teenage boy accidentally activates the revitalize sequence. She‘s been asleep for 62 years. Her family is dead and she has to adjust to this world.
