This week's #threelistthursday score is 22.

3 that had an impact:
🩵 The Picture of Dorian Gray
🩵 The Poisonwood Bible
🩵 One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest

3 that have been on the tbr for a really long time:
⏰️Oryx and Crake (since it's release - 22 years)
⏰️M. Butterfly (since 1996-ish, 29 years)
⏰️ Orlando (since college, 24ish years)

1 confession:
I've never read Shakespeare for my own pleasure, only for school. I'd like to change that.

dabbe Ya whooped me! I still want to read POISONWOOD, CUCKOO (though I've seen the movie) and ORYX. Agree with you on Shakespeare, too. @julieclair and I are thinking of hosting a Shakespeare read of all of his plays. 🤔 Thanks for playing and sharing. 🩶🩷🩶 8h
lil1inblue @dabbe I would love to participate if you and @julieclair end up hosting a Shakespeare read! I've always wanted to do this, and it would be so fun to do with a group. 😍 8h
dabbe @lil1inblue Yay! I'll let ya know! 🤩 8h

Pickpick

Completed the Chunkster level for #ChunksterChallenge2025. I‘d give it a pick because it is a story well told (and well translated, if you get the P+V version). I wouldn‘t say it‘s the “greatest novel of all time,” as some reviews call it. It does provide an interesting historical context of its time. And now I can finally check it off my list. ✔️

monalyisha I *loved* this when I read it. But that was over 15 years ago! If I remember correctly, I may have even mentioned Levin in my internet dating profile (something about a “sweaty, lean farmer with metaphysical concerns”?). 😅🥵 11h
Amiable @monalyisha If I were going to pick a sweaty Russian out of the bunch, it would definitely be Levin! 😄 And I also loved Kitty. Anna, not so much. I actually felt sorry for Karenin. Stiva and Vronsky were basically Russian frat boys -- ugh. 11h
CoverToCoverGirl Congratulations! 🎉 I have attempted this book several times but could never get past the first handful of chapters. 9h
Amiable @CoverToCoverGirl The fact that the chapters are all pretty short is basically what propelled me through some of the sections, I'm not gonna lie. 😃 I could read two chapters (i.e. 5 pages) and feel like I'd accomplished something for the day. 7h
willaful Liking Levin is pretty much all I remember from this book. 😂 6h

DrSabrinaMoldenReads My translation is very different. 7h
Cuilin @DrSabrinaMoldenReads I was just sad for Fantine. The way the boys ‘surprise‘ abandoned the girls was appalling. 5h
dabbe And Tholomyes is described as “badly preserved ... wrinkled, toothless ... beginning to show signs of baldness,“ and in which he claims about himself, “Cock-of-the-walk at thirty, coot at forty.“ #wth? 5h

Cuilin @dabbe yes!! Hugo tells us “20 years later he was a fat, provincial attorney, rich and influential”, but “always a man of pleasure” For all his philosophical talk he knew he was going to abandon her!! 4h
dabbe @Cuilin And it looks like the other girls totally got the joke and moved on, but of course the innocent Fantine, who gave herself for the man she truly believed she loved, is the only one to get pregnant. Truly #lesmis. 2h
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin It gets a lot worse. That was a light event 9m
DrSabrinaMoldenReads @Cuilin I was truly into my feelings by the end of that section 6m
Cuilin @DrSabrinaMoldenReads You‘re right, I‘m bracing myself. It‘s so different reading it than seeing it in a theater or on screen. For some reason, I thought Fantine would get more of a love story before the abandonment and single motherhood and having to leave Cosette. I‘ll have to steel myself. 2m

Another thing I got from my indie bookstore shopping. The cards are gorgeous. I also think it's ingenious to have them be dual purpose.

Well, I just completed Fantine. I have no words and found myself filled with the conflicting emotions which were expressed throughout this section. So, I‘m continuing to read, I loved its message and conveyance of thoughts, feelings and difficult life events that are commonly experienced but we seldom discuss. #ReadLesMis
