The Riddle of the Sands | Erskine Childers

Pickpick

Set before World War I, 2 sailors, Davies and Carruthers, are set against the secret forces of Germany. They uncover a plot which threatens personal as well as national security. UK has since developed a naval base at Rosyth. Davies suspects the Germans are doing something sinister in the German Frisian islands. This is said to be the first spy novel and was published in 1903. The information about yachting was a bit too detailed. Recommended

1. No I usually do not read the previous book again.

2. I have probably 200 or more series that I am trying to catch up on.

#Two4Tuesday @TheSpineView

@Andrew65 Thanks for the tag.

I will tag @plemmdog @dragondrool @Come-read-with-me @Nute

Andrew65 200 is more reasoned. 😂 5y
EadieB @Andrew65 I really don‘t know for sure. Where does it say on Library/Thing how many you are reading? 5y
Andrew65 @EadieB Have done a separate post on this and tagged you in. 5y

plemmdog Mostly literary fiction and nonfiction 5y
EadieB @plemmdog Interesting! I also read a lot of literary fiction. I have almost read 300 books from the #1001bookstoreadbeforeyoudie list. I really enjoy those! Thanks for responding back! 5y

The Enigma of Arrival | V.S. Naipaul
post image

Day 11 - #Arrival #AcrossApril
#TheEnigmaOfArrival #VSNaipaul

description
The story of a writer's singular journey—from one place to another, from the British colony of Trinidad to the ancient countryside of England, and from one state of mind to another—this is perhaps Naipaul's most autobiographical work. Yet it is also woven through with remarkable invention to make it a rich and complex novel.

Read this in 2015. #1001BooksToReadBeforeYouDie

A Day in Spring | Ciril Kosma?
post image

Day 10 - #SpringBreak #MarchMadness #1001Books
I read this book in 2015:
Story of the writer's return, after 15 years, to a village in Slovenia where Alpine and Mediterranean worlds meet. He describes the experiences of the people who live there. The events the characters go through gives the reader feelings of joy, compassion and love. Reminded me of my grandfather who also left a nearby Croatian area in 1914 because of the onset of World War I.

Eggs Sounds very special 😌 5y
EadieB @Eggs Yes! It‘s a beautifully written book! 5y

BarbaraBB One of my favorites- years ago 🧡 5y
EadieB @BarbaraBB I have pulled it out to read very soon. I‘ve read 250 of the 1001 books. How many have you read? 5y
BarbaraBB Over 600, but I have started in 2011 and became rather fanatically. I am now in a bit of #1001books slump 😀 5y
EadieB @BarbaraBB That‘s Great! I was reading the list steadily for awhile. I have to get back to it. 5y

I found this book to be amazing. The psychotherapist part of me loved it the most. I may be wrong in this but I think those who do not do my job may not be aware that such toxic, incredible, unbelievable...people and relationships actually exist undercover among seemingly “normal”people. This novel is fiction but, truly, as Dowell says, “It‘s a queer and fantastic world...with broken, tumultuous lives” ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
