A fast read, which might won't stay with me for long. But I think it's still a good book, since it can help young queers to navigate life. Showing them options and possibilities, and what may lay ahead. This might've been Dean Atta's attempt all along.

Walt Whitman's free verse poetry style flouted traditional meter and rhyme and gained him the label, "the father of free verse.” The voice in his works is said to breathe the new American spirit of broad open lands and enterprising, hard-working people.

This week's #middlegrademonday theme is inspired by our family's trip to the ER this weekend that ended in an appendectomy for my son! I also love the tagged book- a heartfelt story about a girl dealing with her mother's illness. I'd love to hear your recommendations!

Read4life Sorry to hear this. I hope your son heals quickly. Hugs to all of you. 💙 3w
Mollyanna Hope your son is doing better and heals quickly. 3w
dabbe Sorry to read about your son. I hope he is on the mend and up and running again very soon. 🖤🧡🖤 3w
Librarybelle Wishing your son a speedy recovery! 3w
Karisimo Thanks everyone! He‘s healing well, just really sad about missing the end of cross country season and not meeting the time he needed to run at the college he wants next year. 3w

“…Native women and girls are 10 times more likely to be murdered than the US national average…a crisis that needs laws and resources to address the 500+ missing US Native women.” Author/Ojibwe Dawn Quigley. Red dresses hung up in the tree limbs are there to honor the missing girls/women.
Novel in verse.

#MiddleGradeMonday Share a middle grade read about boat or ocean life. @Karisimo
I read these two for booked in time, last year. One nonfiction and one fiction, about the sinking of the children's ship in World War II.

Karisimo Sad, but perfectly fits the prompt! Thanks for sharing! 3mo

This was a wonderful read. Quinn(ie) is an eighth grader trying to figure out exactly who she is. Her seemingly perfect brother just left for college, and now her parents are fighting more than ever. She‘s been friends with Jack for years, but things change after Jade joins their class. Then her home is hit by a tornado. As she learns to write poetry, she works through all of these things and grows in her own direction.

Daisey This #MiddleGrade #NovelInVerse is a Truman nominee for Missouri this school year that I will absolutely be recommending to my students.
