We've already plundered the book tree to start #Jolabokaflod (Graphic Novel heavy) early.
The book in German is for my daughter, so she and I can do a readalong.

I just love the illustrations in this book😍
Books from my trip to Indigo this morning!👏🏻
Tobin @ my local Indigo gave me the recommendation for Kill Creek and I can‘t wait to get into it!! Anyone read it before?!
The Resurrectionist contains “medical documentation” of the worlds most occult creatures! Plus the illustrations inside are GORGEOUS!🖤 (more photos to come!)
My favorite indie celebrated their 1 year anniversary last night. I stopped by, drank some wine, agreed to join their book club, bought some books. I had never heard of the tagged book but was intrigued by the cover.

This book contains the fictional biography of Dr Spencer Black, and also his book of anatomical illustrations of mythological creatures. Dr Black believed that mythological creatures were the ancestors of humans. Dr Black is obviously going insane. The illustrations are amazing, the text not so much.
A day late with this one. My last two days at work we‘re exhausting.
Set in Philadelphia 1870s, this is a fictional biography of Dr. Spencer Black, a surgeon who specializes in teratology & later on embarks on a dark journey to prove that mythological creatures are our ancestors and were real species that once walked the earth. So-so read!
Rating: 3🌟

Wow this book is fantastic. The decline of a noted surgeon in the Victorian era told through extracts of his diaries it has fantastic art like this. Nice.
I quite enjoyed the biography part and the art, but the Codex was boring and I thought the author could have done more with it.
The narrative of a brilliant doctor slowly losing his sanity to twisted obsessions of the deformities & abnormalities of the human body is haunting & the epitome of Victorian horror. Excellent biographical format that is very dark, disturbing, & macabre. The illustrations are marvellously stunning! I highly recommend this penny dreadful!! • 4.5/5
Heads up #Littens! The newest Humble Bundle is all about weird, strange, funny, coocky, geeky ebooks! For 15$ or more, you get The Shatnerica (which is why I'm getting it) but also Horrorstör, Regretable Superheroes, Regretable Supervilains, and sixteen other ebooks including the tagged one, which I recommend.

1/3 - I love books in any format. Print, audio, or ebook. I generally am not bias. However some books are best in print and this is one of them. It‘s fantasy, mythology and fictional biography all in one. Very intriguing! #bookstoowninprint

⭐ I rarely do this. A Wrinkle in Time.
⭐ Tagged. Good book too.
⭐ Too many to list.
⭐ Quail. They eat a lot of quail in 19th c. French novels. It's ok. Quail eggs are the bomb, though. Never had ortolan and no one will convince me to try that, though, no no no.

This was a gorgeous, grotesque, bonkers experience of a book. The illustrations alone made me glad I picked it up, but the “biography” of Dr. Spencer Black is, ultimately, what kept me up reading. Two days later, I‘m still thinking about it. It‘s a perfect read for October.
Trying to whittle down my collection while also making my Halloween stack. Need all the energy I can get.
This was morbidly interesting. Sort of like a Doctor Frankenstein obsessed with mythical beasts. The story is short, but the collection of illustrations make it a pretty good book overall. This can be read in one sitting. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This book feels oddly incomplete. The illustrations are fantastic, but the background story is *barely* there. At the same time, what was written was incredibly creepy. I guess I just wanted a more complete narrative, because what was there was promising!
Wonderful book for someone who likes really weird reads. This book is so immersive and interesting. I thought the graphics in this book and the story were just wonderful. Would highly recommend this book. It makes a wonderful part of anyone's book collection.
