"Just make a mark and see where it takes you."
This book is for students who want to give up before they start. It's also a good reminder of the difference a warm and supportive teacher can make.
This book would pair well with an art lesson on creativity. After reading the story students could make their own dot into something great.
This story is all about creativity. A young girl discovers that just a dot can grow into something amazing. This book if perfect for sparking creativity in young readers.
I couldn‘t decide which book to use for today‘s #SchoolSpirit prompt #paint, so I just used both.
Peter H. Reynolds is one of the best children‘s book writers of all time, IMO.
Day 3 of #CoverLove is dots. Well, this is one big dot, but it works, right?

This book was a favorite of the 3year olds I taught in years past. Warm memories! #coverlove #dots #day3
Her teacher smiled. "Just make a mark and see where it takes you.”

The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds was a picture book that was published in 2003. The young girl in this tale despises art class because she believes she isn't good at drawing. Her inventiveness soars once her teacher gently advises her to start with a single dot. The narrative honors everyone's creative soul. The use of color is important in reading this because the colors express her emotions so we can see how she is feeling.
I cannot stress enough how important it is to foster creativity, not squash it. Rules and form are great, but so is pushing against those constraints. Let those little artist flags fly. :) This book is so sweet, and an important read for kids AND adults. #MensaKidsExcellenceInReading K-3
Vashti painted and painted. A red dot. A purple dot. A yellow dot. A blue dot.
Teaches us that we are all creative and someone we just need someone to believe in us.
Poetry. Lovely story that talks about creativity and how it lives inside all of us. It also shows us that sometimes all it takes is for someone to believe in us to help us believe in ourselves.
The child in this story, Vashti, does not like art class at all. She feels this way because she is convinced that she can't draw. Vashti's teacher encourages her to start with a single dot. After this, she signed her work and comes to art class the next week to find her artwork framed. Vashti's creativity takes off.
This book is all about making your mark on the world and finding yourself. I think it would be a great book for the first month of school.
What if you wanted to draw, but you said I really cannot? Enter Peter H. Reynold's RF, Christopher award-winning book The Dot. Vashti is a girl who believes she cannot draw. When it seems there is no hope, Vashti's teacher encourages her to just make one mark. Just like that, one simple dot changes her outlook in an unexpected way. Incorporating S with this book is a fun approach.
What an inspiring book! This RF picture book is about a young girl who truly believes she can‘t paint. Until her teacher proves her otherwise. It would make a wonderful RA in which you can remind your students that they can do anything they set their minds to! Challenging yourself is what makes you great. #ucflae3414su20
The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds is a RF picture book that can open the minds of all educators. This story shows the true impact that educators have on children in their classroom. The Dot focus on the daily life of a little girl who “can‘t” but by the end she truly finds her passion and discovers that she can all because of the actions of one teacher. One teacher truly can make a difference. #ucflae3414su20
My husband painted an accent wall in our library this weekend. I love blue. 😊
This is a wonderful little picture book. Vashti can‘t draw. So she doesn‘t. Her art teacher quietly disagrees. And that changes everything. Sweet book, lovely message, cute pictures.
I was going to have a blitz on #BBRC children‘s books this weekend, but I‘m onto a non-starter with the libraries closed (limited ebooks, long queues). So I‘ll be reading in the spirit of BBRC (which was always kind of the point) but may not fill any actual prompts!
This book should be taught in every school, in my opinion! It demonstrates the impact a teacher can make, but it also shows kids that they can do anything if someone believes in them. The concept of thinking you‘re awful at something then having one person come along and complimenting you, changing your entire mindset is a phenomenal message. #UCFLAE3414SP20
This proves that anyone can be an artist!! #artist #magnificentmarch @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @OriginalCyn620
The Dot by Peter Reynolds is a children‘s RF book about a girl being challenged to paint. She starts with just a dot on a page until she realizes how many different ways she can draw a simple dot. This book is about learning to overcome self-doubt and challenging yourself to improve.

One of my most favorite books. It showed a teacher giving a student the power to believe in herself even if it was something so simple and small the character didnt see it that way. This is a great read for young students on how to believe in themselves and they can do anything they set their minds too.
Two more done for the #picturebook section of the #bbrc!
Both of these were pretty cute. Believe it or not I've never actually read that Bill Martin / Eric Carle before. Both picks but neither was mind blowing.

The Dot, a RF picture book written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, would be a great story to use for S. This book is super cute and inspiring and teaches a great lesson to students.(Cont.) #ucflae3414su19
The Dot by Peter Reynolds is a cute RF picture book! I was introduced to this story today by a classmates story telling, and just couldn‘t get it out of my head. This book tells the story of a little girl named Vashti who at the start is convinced she cannot draw anything. However, her very smart teacher, decided to frame her artwork that consisted of a dot. This motivated Vashti to create more pieces of art that incorporate dots.
It all starts with a small step, in this case, a dot, and the rest will follow. A great message for kids and adults. "Just make a mark and see where it takes you."
I'm a big fan of Peter Reynolds. This is one of favs. Will be sharing more! ?

Written and illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds, The Dot is a RF picture book that tells the story about a girl named Vashti and how she makes her mark. Vashti doubts herself as an artist, but then one day, her art teacher ignites her creativity and Vashti gains the confidence to create even more dots! This book is perfect for a RA, especially on International Dot Day (Sept. 15)! #ucflae3414su19
As I was flipping through the children‘s book section in Barnes & Noble, this giant orange dot couldn‘t help but catch my attention. Simple yet extraordinary, the dot represents that there is art in everything! In this RF PB, a student who is struggling creatively gets inspired when the teacher has her sign the dot she drew. I would love to use this as a RA to inspire my kids, as well . #LAE3414sp19
Pulling picture books to make room for a #bannedbooksweek display, and I just had to reread this lovely little book.
Happy #bookloversday to all of you! I can‘t even begin to explain how much of a #bibliophile I am. I absolutely ❤️ books and have all my life. So much so that I recently made the family stop at two different @target stores to ensure I found a signed copy of @peterhreynolds The Dot!
