His books, many of them considered wordless or incorporating few words can be used to have students create their own stories as you noted. These mentor texts are very helpful in the classroom. 4y

I think the idea for the lesson is great because you are taking a subject like math that isn't as favored with most kids and using more appealing thing like animals to draw them in and keep their attention!
